1. I suppose. Worth a try though

I want an album every year or two. Remember, U2 don't have long until their pension! They need loads of shows, tours and albums pronto.

Is it that hard to stick eight songs on a record, do a quick bit of photography for 15 minutes, write some lyrics, mix it and put it out as an EP? Albums shouldn't take too long - the longer the worse they become. Some come out alright but others are just terrible - just record a few new songs, stick 'em on and put it out.

totally agree about the time they take to record now, think about it-Joshua Tree took only 6 months or so, wtf. I think they scrutinize their material too much these days. I'll bet NOLTH was a much better album when it was still heavily influenced with the African beats and Sufi singing. The improv clips from Fez sound a lot better than what's on the album.
  3. I think that u2 doesn't take that long to produce something... I remember edge saying that they could write things very quicly he just didn't know how good could it be. And, for example, in the last 5 years they wrote 50-60 songs like bono said, they could have at least released half of them, an album, an EP and singles with REAL B-sides. Same during ATYCLB.. they wrote more than a 100.... They just want to release the best of the best, but I think they don't know how to pick (Idk why Heaven and hell, Mercy, Winter, Smile, Levitate were not released), i think they didn't even need to pick so few, I bet there are a lot of good ones left out that they r afraid to release!
  4. One word -

    Pop.

Great album, no disagreeing with that, nor would I wish to suggest that, but I still think it could have been even better had they given themselves more time to work on it. Just the reverse to the argument about spending too much time, I'd suggest.

    That's a great point.

I'm sure that Pop would have been generally viewed as U2's very best album if they had had the time to finish it properly. Now it 'just' stands above many other U2 records. But the more time U2 spend working on a song these days the more life they squeeze out from it. As someone has stated above, NLOTH would have been better if they kept the songs' earlier forms.
  8. In their defense, they do have an image to maintain, and I think it's safe to say that the general public (read: not members of this website) wasn't impressed with NLOTH. The mantra now is "2 duds in a row and we're done..." I'd hate for them to have to follow through on that promise!

luckily HTDAAB was seen as a huge success otherwise it would've been over by now.

  10. I blame Bono and The Edge.

The Edge also started to act and talk like Bono lately...

Not to even mention live performances. Bono is always great, but can someone remember when The Edge did something that no one would expect? We can only dream about extended WOWY solos and such things...

They don't want to be like the Stones but the way they're going they are.
