1. I don't doubt that the RELEASE is great (fantastic edition of the video, great sharp image quality, etc etc); it's the PERFORMANCE what I'm doubting. Bono was clearly not perfect and the band (Adam aside) wasn't on fire [like they were in other live releases]... We don't know if the Q/Mojo/Rolling Stones/etc reviewers know the vast amount of U2 live material that we know (and to which I compare what U2 releases).

Fair point, though I stand by being more impressed now than I was initially. And, satisfied.

But yeah- Adam WAS on fire! Holy crap! He was cracking me up the whole time I watched it through, and my dad was in the room and he's going, "why are you laughing?!" and I just kept answering, "Man, Adam is either really bored or he's having a GREAT time, because that is NOT how that bassline goes at all! But it WORKS!"

Haven't seen it yet, but certainly Breathe on U2.com isn't brilliant - Bono's voice is strained. I still don't get why they decided to do a DVD at the end of the second leg of the tour. Bono's voice was awesome until Amsterdam, then good until September, and finally declining during the last weeks of the leg. This was to be expected - rock'n'roll singing is devastating, and the man isn't 25 anymore. This said, I look forward to seeing the dvd; everyone seems to be enchanted.
  4. put on a 360 tour shirt this morning, put on the ONE wristband and drove 30km to the next big media store to buy the 2disc deluxe edition. I thought I'd be the only one "celebrating" the release LOL I swear there were at least 10 others in the store wearing U2 shirts as well, grabbing the dvds score for real life shopping. anyway, can't wait to watch it tonight (after the Gelsenkirchen multicam, which comes first..... long night ahead )

I thought the same thing about Adam. I think he is trying to re-imagine the bass lines a little, to play them more in a way he would now(2009) v/s then(1983-1987). I noticed in on WOWY and others. I think also the mix is so clear for each instrument that you can pick out alot more parts. The Vertigo Dvd had so much low end that it was very muddy. I love the new ideas he is playing with on the songs.
  6. I purchased the Blu Ray edition and i have to say I love it. Everyone who ripped on the performance of Ultra Violet from the youtube edition, I'll be interested to see how/if your opinion changed when you see the dvd. It was incredible. I didn't like it at first on youtube either but it might be my favorite song ever on a dvd after seeing it again.

Other than that, the rest of the dvd was great, visually stunning, excellent performance, and a good representation of the tour in my opinion.
  7. Not the biggest fan of the cinematic approach. Also, there seems to be a strange filter used for the picture...
The performance is quite good, I think - if you leave out Bono. Mixing Vegas into Pasadena doesn't help much... Setlist isn't really my cup of tea - but I knew that before, so back in the closet with the discs. Maybe I'll watch it again next year.

Anyway, the Super Deluxe pack for 32,99 € was a bargain.
  8. nevermind... wrong button.

That is great. You've given me the incentive to do the same thing.
  10. I'm listening to the audio rip of it right now, since I'm waiting on my copy to ship (Amazon.com is frustrating!), and I think it sounds pretty good...then again, I haven't listened to quite as many boots/seen as many shows as many of the rest of you. UTEOTW doesn't sound as good as Slane, TUF doesn't sound as good as Paris '87 (but that's to be expected) and Elevation...I dunno, lacks something...but the rest of it has been pretty good so far.

I still wish that they'd have played Bad that night...but I suppose I'll take having seen it at my show.
  11. Play dispatched by Blu-Ray today, will probably get it tomorrow or Monday.
  12. Streets (with the Amazing Grace intro) and Ultraviolet sound absolutely stunning...can't wait to actually see them.
