1. I would hope not.

U2 cite how the want bands to come through the ranks in the modern era and like to give a chance to decent if not very established acts. I would think that this goes against a lot of what they stand for as a band.

Simon Cowell's poptart-producing machine (aka a 'toaster') has encouraged a musical world of very good singing voices but little else in musical talent.

When you think of some of the best song writing musicians it has to be said a lot of them don't have particularly great singing voices - Win Butler, Francis Black, Bob Dylan, James Murphy, Steve Maulkmus are some that come to mind.

I remember doing a study on the effects of modern age media promoting beauty on what people determined as beauty in other people and people are definitely affected by this idea of 10/10. Similarly I think by focusing a lot on people's singing voice a lot of other things are missed over.

Well, that's just the rambling thoughts of a guy who's only a 9/10 in looks
  2. I was gobsmacked when after Rebecca's ISHFWILF performance Mr Cowell said he had never heard the song done like that. How could Mr Music big wig not be aware of The Chimes cover in the early 90's of which Rebecca's version was identical!!

    Well said
  4. okay, lets see....

WOWY: Not really digging her voice, and what the hell is she doing with her hands But to be fair, it´s not an easy song to sing.

AOH: Good performance but I think it´s one of the easiest to sing

AIWIY: Really enjoyed her voice, but when the song kicks in WHAT THE HELL is going there musically Waaaay too aggressive and loud But the intro was really great.

ISHFWILF: Overall a solid performance The beat reminds of something by Pogo...

(and those two judges are fucking hot)
  5. Well it's that time again!...Love it or hate it, it's difficult to avoid it. Anyway, I'll post up youtube videos of U2 covers.

[1] At the bootcamp stage, Terry Winstanley performed "One" - no longer in the competition, althought did go through after this performance...

    Link here...

[2] Last weekend (15/10/2011) 'Nu Vibe' performed "With Or Without You" - needless to say, they were evicted from the competition...

    Link here...

[3] Here's a nice little conversation with Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls) - This is from X Factor USA, surprised me a little.

Anyway, next week is 'Rock Music' week...check back then!

I actually loved Nu Vibe's version of With Or Without You. Thought it was different, which I really like. They made it their own.

I would add Bono to that list. he has a brilliant unique voice and is a top song writer but again in technical terms he is not a great singer.
