1. I forgot about your special taste in music, Drew.
  2. ^ HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Not 'special' - just different.

The "problem" with many singles (at least for me, anyway) is that they tend to get overplayed and, in many cases, you get sick of them after a while. However, I also have to take into consideration that it is these songs that made a particular album (especially "Bomb") so popular in the first place. Then I am left with the feeling, "Do I really like this song or do I just like it because I am supposed to?" Songs like "Vertigo" and "Mysterious Ways" (I know, wrong album) fall into this category for me.

It's like Beautiful Day. The song is nice enough and it's got a quality message to it, but how many times since 2000 have you heard that song and thought 'wow talk about overplayed'.
  3. You've got a point, but I don't completely agree.

    1) If let's say Acrobat was a single, some/most of us might even get bored of that one too. Everything can be overkilled. Look at how we all say or said Pride must take a rest, live. And Sunday Bloody Sunday. And Bullet The Blue Sky. Some even said I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. Even Bad isn't played that often anymore. The only exception seems to be Streets.

    2) I think it's because we're still too close to it. We all 'just' (in U2-terms 5 to 10 years seem to go by rather quickly) heard Beautiful Day; Vertigo, Get On Your Boots quite regulary on the radio and probably played it quite often ourselves at home.I understand some or most of you get bored of it then.
But after a while, you'll go back to them and re-discover the songs that you once loved. You don't hear the old songs that much on the radio or films or tv or parties or... You almost choose the amount yourself.
And I went back to HTDAAB rather 'soon'. And although I do admit, and anyone will probably admit, that The Joshua Tree and/or Achtung Baby are better albums (they're masterpieces, it's not a shame you can't top them), HTDAAB is still a pretty good to excellent album and I hope you'll all see that in time, when you go back to it.
  4. Definitely underrated because people are stuck in the Pop era and can't move on.
  5. Jup, that's the only reason some people don't like the 20's album as much as the ones before only because ''they are stuck in the Pop era''.........
You know? There is something like taste? Which is different for most people?

I btw don't think HTDAAB is underrated, it's a pretty good album (Better than NLOTH and waaaay better than ATYCLB). Their best after Pop imo. COBL and SYCMIOYO are the best tracks on it, while Vertigo, Miracle Drug and Crumbs are pretty good too.
  6. I think it's interesting where fan opinion of HTDAAB is with respect to ATYCLB and NLOTH. People will say that ATYCLB was over produced and overplayed and NLOTH was generally underwhelming but HTDAAB generally gets passed over. My favorites from HTDAAB are definitely Miracle Drug, SYCMIOYO, and OOTS.
  7. SYCMIOYO has been on repeat lately.

The best song off the album.
  8. I love "How to Dismantle..." and still listen to it a lot to this day, but I have a strong attachment to that entire period that included "All that You Can't Leave Behind" and "Atomic Bomb," which I always associate together. It was just an exciting time to be a U2 fan. I will never forget the huge smile on my face as I heard the Edge's chiming guitar ringing out the first time I heard "Walk On." I hadn't realized until just then how much I had missed U2's 80's sound, and I was, and remain, a huge fan of Achtung Baby and that era. I had heard bits of "Beautiful Day" prior to the album's release and liked what I had heard, but I was very pleasantly surprised by what I heard when I listened to the full album.

I also loved the return to a smaller stage set up that emphasized the band themselves and the songs. The old songs seemed to fit so seamlessly with the new material, and U2 was so revitalized. The songs themselves were so emotional and direct, with strong melodies, big choruses, chiming Edge guitar and everything I love about U2. I guess this thread is supposed to be about "Atomic Bomb," but I wrote my reply about an entire era of U2
  9. Yeah, that's something I wondered about when I would read posts on the U2 forum I used to go on. 15 years of music by U2 that you are either lukewarm about or dislike outright is more than enough to turn a lot of people, including myself, away from the band permanently. If I felt that way about that large of a time period in U2's career, I doubt I would care enough about them anymore to bother posting on a fan forum.

  11. Sorry for the duplicate posts! I'm still trying to figure out how to post on a new forum
  12. When I first got the album in 2004 I found maybe three or four songs I liked.

Since that time, I've been able to get a bit more into it; and now finding myself liking a fair few more of the songs - the initial likes were for Yahweh and One Step Closer. I guess off this album, Original Of The Species, City Of Blinding Lights and Miracle Drug are probably the standouts.

And it's definitely not complete without Are You Gonna Wait Forever and Neon Lights (which should've not been B-sides).
