1. And quite clearly, a pathetic little plea to the downloading public requesting that a recording not be converted to MP3 is also of very little relevence.

No need to get all offensive on me because I expressed an opinion. It's a well known issue with the internet, regardless of the content, if you publish something online, it runs the risk of being used in a way you didn't intend it to be used. Be it a photogrpahers photographs or a tapers recordings.

  2. Are you generalising now?

You confuse not caring with not really being able to do much about the situation. We give Remy a hand with the forums and stuff. He holds the keys to the big issue here. The deputy cannot dictate to the Sheriff as such.

  4. Yeah, let's take a childish way of debating.

  5. The one? I take it you're implying me. I haven't touched Achtung's recording (since the show doesn't interest me) and neither have I bitched about a recording not being available. The comment earlier about him not sharing Coimbra as a result of this little fiasco was merely a case of who gives a shit. You go and enjoy the Coimbra shows in your little close knit circle of friends, I meanwhile couldn't care less.

I'm not "fighting" for anyone's site. But I am still waiting for an answer about my suggestion to only upload the lossless recording here when a taper states he doesnt want it spread as MP3. As said, what ppl do after they have downloaded the lossless file is their own personal use. A simple google search tells you how to convert .flac to lossy MP3 and a bit of effort can be expectedfrom ppl who only come here for the possible MP3 recording.

That is just not reality. When we do that, and we've actually done that a couple of times, I get more than 25 PM's per day on if we please can share it in MP3. I try to explain it but people just don't know how to.

So no, that's not an option, when the majority of the fans wants it like this, they get it like this. I've done a lot of research on this subject and when we don't share it in MP3, other sites will, and then all the fans will go there. No problem, but other sites don't make an issue out of not mentioning taper names/lineage etc. When we do it, apart from the discussion here, we try to do it the best way for the tapers and for the fans.

I am sure 95% of those ppl are just too lazy to spend some time figuring it out.
  9. Then we have hundreds of versions in circulation, since everyone downloads them in their shared folder and convert them to mp3 there. All differently encoded, the one worse than the other.

And all shared on tons of other U2 bootleg sites, blogs, usenet etc. In 25 versions, we try to organize it.

  11. Maybe, but 10% doesn't even have the privilege of installing third party software on their PC/Mac. So they can never listen to a gig they've been to, unless it's all ready for them.

Can you list other U2 Bootlegs sites that are as popular as this one???? I can count them down on one hand.

Also...I simpy dont believe ppl who convert it will spread it the way you do. The argument with "Organizing to only have 1 MP3-version" is not valid in my opinion. It also is no justification regarding taper's wishes.
