We were on the rail - it was definitely full band.

How was the sound at the front of the stage in the inner circle - it was quite impossible to make any kind of judgements on performance quality without covering/plugging your ears where we were right on the walkway railing in the inner circle - i can't think being closer to the front would have better sound quality.

At times it was a little top heavy, a bit shrieky in the higher registers. They've been having balance problems all of this leg as far as I can tell. The bass was way too overpowering in (one of?) the Brisbane shows. My trousers were bouncing in time with it. But I'm going to miss the whole crazy show now that I've been to my last one for the leg, sound problems or not.
I saw a fair few North American shows & my friend has seen a bunch of last leg's European shows as well and we both agreed, this leg has killed them both. The guys are so much tighter, Bono's voice is stronger and the whole thing is working brilliantly.
Upfront lets put in on the record, I love the band. Have all the albums and rareities and demos and been to every tour since 1989...
To sum up: Great show - ordinary sound.
Not the bands fault, but the audio engineers need to take a good hard look at themselves! The sound quality for Vertigo 2006 (at the same venue!) was great, this was unacceptable. For the most expensive stage rig and for the largest, most extravagant tour in rock history, how can a team of professional audio engineers and technicians serve up that?
It wasn't the venue (the reverb was fine), it wasn't the band - it was the mixing!
Maybe it was where I was standing (on the arena, off-centre a bit), but the EQ was all over the shop. No low-end, too much screeching high end and a muddy middle, and call me a fuddy-duddy, but even just a bit too loud. It was only in the quieter songs where the mix actually was ok.
The lads seemed a bit tired, Bono's delivery was at times lethargic and the band was quite loose in parts. Not their best effort, but then again they've set the bar so high for so long.
Set wise - an interesting mix. To finish with 'Moment of Surrender', simply didnt work and was an anti-climax. 'Streets', 'Vertigo', "Sarajevo', W.O.W.Y, 'Blinding Lights' and 'I Will Follow' the highlights for me.
My 8 other friends who I went with were buzzing after the gig - I felt left out, as I was the only one feeling let down. As well as being a big fan, I can also be a big critic. 6/10.

Hmm, lots of complaints on the sound from that SMH comments section - they really should have adjusted for the stadium acoustics.
