1. I can absolutely confirm to you that those photos you are referring to are indeed from The Top Rank in Cardiff on the date you correctly noted.

Are you Martin Briggs? Thank you for the confirmation though, I do believe you. If you had access to the originals, though, maybe these are clearer and one could guess the setlist more accurately...
  3. No I am not Martin Briggs. I can however tell you that I showed these photographs to my friend who was at the concert and instantly recognised the venue and recalled the evening very well.
He told me that initially Bono was having trouble connecting with the audience (most of whom it seemed were more interested in The Comsat Angels who supported them that night). My friend told me it was quite a rough crowd and Bono did get into the audience and got them very much connected after that.
Sadly no bootleg exists that i know of.
Also earlier that day U2 had recorded a BBC session in London and were late to arrive for the gig.
  4. I'm cross-referencing some setlists they played close to that date, assuming they stayed SOMEWHAT the same, and doing some intense zooming-and-squinting...

    Stay tuned
  5. Let's enhance.gif
  6. I believe the first song is Gloria, just barely visible by Adam's hairline. Below that I think "Another Time" is written, which is consistent with them playing ATAT after Gloria on the October tour.

Below that, I see a short one followed by two slightly longer ones. At the least they have multiple words. Similar sets from around that time frame list "Rejoice," "An Cat Dubh," and "Into the Heart" which I'm confident about applying here.

At the end of the set, a pretty consistent run for them was Stories for Boys / I Will Follow / Twilight / Out of Control. I think "Follow" is written simply for IWF, and that the rest is accurate. I can make out a big "B" in front of the word "Boys" on that line.

    So far we have...

    Gloria
    Another Time Another Place
    Rejoice
    An Cat Dubh
    Into the Heart

    Stories for Boys
    I Will Follow
    Twilight
    Out of Control
  7. And I think "October" before SFB but other than that I can't make a damn thing out or guess what it could be for.
  8. My guesses are, based on length of the song names and what was being played around that time, are "Fire," "11 O'Clock Tick Tock," and "The Ocean" which would make the full setlist:

    Gloria
    Another Time Another Place
    Rejoice
    An Cat Dubh
    Into the Heart
    Fire
    11 o'Clock Tick Tock
    The Ocean
    October
    Stories for Boys
    I Will Follow
    Twilight
    Out of Control

Sorry for all the posts, I started doing decent with it and got excited
  9. Sorry I cant help with the setlist as my friend who was at the gig really has no love for U2 and went for The Comsat Angels, so he would have no idea what was played.

I think they should have played Brick that day.
  11. Could very well be Brick instead of Fire
  12. Impressive work, Matt Well done.

I didn't have the time to post it, but maybe double checking the blurry titles with known setlists pics from that era could have helped too.

There are a few on U2byU2 that I can't find online right now.
