Very nice list but why not just toss away North Star and Glastonbury (for the night) and go with full-on hits? Besides, the latter of the two isn't that good - yet (?). Give us The Fly and something from R&H - Desire or All I Want Is You makes sense to me.

not play Glastonbury at GLASTONBURY? North star would be nice soo they dont get full on shit from critics for going 100 percent greatest hits

They'll play Glasto for obvious reasons, and I don't think they'd still be frequently playing North Star if it wasn't on the new album in some shape or form, so in a sense they'll be "promoting" it.
  5. Do artists actually perform full-length setlists at Glastonbury? Forgive me for not knowing, I've never really paid any attention to it at all, only when watching Killers or Snow Patrol videos

Headliners generally play a full show, yes. Last year Gorillaz filled U2's slot with a 24 song set.

  7. It's still U2. It's not a bunch of newbies or idiots. They know how to throw a ball. I think they will be amazing at Glasto whatever they play.
  8. I am just afraid Bono's voice will be shot. Doesnt seem like enough time to give his voice a rest, just listen to Rose Bowl to what can do that to his voice

Would be a shame, his voice is really good this tour when he is rested.

I see your point (I thought about it while I was typing my previous post as a matter of fact) but I watched a few performances of that song and I, along with the audience, wasn't too impressed by it. They'll need to get it on the radio beforehand. I think that will certainly help - although it may also come across as a MAJOR sell out.

I think it's interesting that we discuss them getting shit from the critics. There seems to be a fine line nowadays between who is a fan and who is a critic. For better or for worse, I feel like I have turned into both.

Bono's voice was in great shape by the Australian leg last year. Oddly enough, the girl he danced with on stage during Brisbane 2 (who I'd been chatting to before the show) is a voice coach/music teacher and we'd been talking about how much better he was sounding compared to the earlier legs.
  11. (i know i'll get shot down for this probably by everyone but it's just like... my opinion maaaan..)

i think the whole idea of writing a song called 'glastonbury' cos your finally playing glastonbury is the just the most cheesy and possibly pretentious thing any band could do... (i think it's what certain internet types might call a facepalm moment...) no other band has ever done it, they just turn up and play.. but trust U2 to have to be the ones to play glastonbury for the first time and then feel the need to try and sum up the festival in song..
and i mean if they had to write a song for glastonbury about glastonbury don't actually call the song 'glastonbury'! try and be a bit more subtle and clever about it!!

and at the end of the day the bottom line is it's not even a very good song at all.! if it was one of the best songs ever written it might be worthy of it's title but when it's announced by bono in some grandiose fashion people are gona be expecting something pretty special... it's b-side material at best
