i think the whole idea of writing a song called 'glastonbury' cos your finally playing glastonbury is the just the most cheesy and possibly pretentious thing any band could do... (i think it's what certain internet types might call a facepalm moment...) no other band has ever done it, they just turn up and play.. but trust U2 to have to be the ones to play glastonbury for the first time and then feel the need to try and sum up the festival in song..
and i mean if they had to write a song for glastonbury about glastonbury don't actually call the song 'glastonbury'! try and be a bit more subtle and clever about it!!

and at the end of the day the bottom line is it's not even a very good song at all.! if it was one of the best songs ever written it might be worthy of it's title but when it's announced by bono in some grandiose fashion people are gona be expecting something pretty special... it's b-side material at best

No shooting here, I agree. I cringe every time someone suggests they play that thing at Glasto. Maybe even double-facepalm.
  2. I unfortuately think that as U2 fans we aren't going to get much of a surprise in what they play on the night. The current setlist is majority 'crowd pleasing' for people who don't follow the band with as much gusto as the people who contribute/commenton the forums in/use this site.

I predict they open with Beautiful Day. Play alot of Achtung Baby and ATYCLB. Streets, WOWY and ISHFWILF willall get a run. They will defo play Glastonbury. All in all I think it will be a 'safe' setlist, unfortunately.

However, as a big fan, I can always dream that they will open with MLK into Unforgettable Fire follwed by Vertigo, Electric Co., The Fly, NLOTH, Daddy's Gonna Pay, Lemon, a 5 song acoustic set of Desire, Staring at The Sun, Walk On, Stay and SBS, Zoo Station, God Part II, Exit, Bullet, Running (segue into) Streets, Gloria and finish the night with Zooropa.

Now that setlist would get the critics complaining that U2 are too unpredictable (I wish).

Honestly, even if they wanted to play a setlist like that, I doubt they could, at least not without intensive rehearsals that they just won't have time to do. Glasto is not the sort of place that's going to forgive fuck-ups and there's no way U2 will chance a disaster with songs they haven't played in 20 years. They have enough trouble remembering the stuff they play regularly.
  4. listening to Last Night on Earth from Mexico City, that would go down a treat at Glastonbury

Completely true, his voice is great this tour. I was just saying that it can go downhill fast when he has done lots of shows in a short period.

First leg his voice was amazing, but during the last shows of the 1st leg and the whole 2nd leg his voice decreased badly. During the start of the 3rd leg it was great again, I just hope he can keep it up

I am a big fan of Bono's voice

  6. i'm hoping the pull out the fly not only at glasto but during the south american leg too

  7. totally!

i've said it before a million times but i'll say it again - the sooner they re-discover how great that album is the better. the neglect of that album over the last ten years is criminal in my opinion. a couple of songs from pop at glastonbury would go down a storm i reckon. it would remind the critics that they did actually used to be capable of creating kick ass, rocking, clever music and it would show people with limited U2 knowledge that there was a totally different side to the band and maybe make them want to discover more when they pack up their tents and go home.

there's also a load of other great and interesting songs that have been neglected recently - bring back the fly, maybe bring back a mega heavy version of bullet.. hopefully EBTTRT will be brought back. all great festival tunes i reckon. combine that with some early gems like out of control, IWF and gloria, and a few of the best from the last 10 years (without playing half of ATYCLB) and then the obvious massive hits like streets, SBS, pride, still haven't found etc etc and you've got yourself a perfect, nicely balanced career spanning set!

and of course they have enough time to rehearse!! it's not until june. the US leg doesn't start til may - they could start rehearsals in april, start incorporating the different songs into a new 360 set and by the end of june they should be sorted.

don't care what anyone says - the 360 set is boring and has become totally predictable. if i had been on tour since 2009 and had that many great songs sitting unused in my massive back catalogue i'm pretty sure i'd be bored by now! come on lets have some big changes for the US / s america legs!

I hate to say it but if they do what YOU hope for they will be booed off the stage - see this is where fans must realize that this moment for U2 is big and they can only play the broadest setlist possible to make the night take off...really, no offense but in what world does playing POP songs or ZOOROPA make for a great festival setlist, are you that out of touch, what you ask would be great surprises for a solo U2 concert but not for a fest...if they did this you will be defending your U2 to coworkers for the rest of your life! the reason you still have to defend U2 is probably because you make the worst points ever and many others on this site might have converted some of those people to our side of the U2 fence by now, please don't speak of U2 outside this website again, you give us all a Bad name.

Firstly i think your out off line ,,,people are putting forward there thoughts on what set list they can play ,,mine is a greatest hits from when u2 were putting out really great records ( 80's 90's ) nothing they have done since can touch what they done back then. and you say i shouldent talk about U2 outside this site !!! well you know what you can do with that bit off advice..

totally agree with you there! to be blatantly honest this guy was getting on my nerves with his long winded ramblings... i know i can be quite opinionated but i always try and make a point of stating that it is just MY opinion and nothing else
  10. If U2 chose to play a Muse song in full with one of their band members at Glastonbury (like they did last year)....which one do you think would work?

Would love to hear them belt out Knights of Cydonia

PS.....can we put our handbags away now? Thanks!

can't see that happening! don't think U2 are skilled enough to pull off a muse song..

but if i had to choose it'd be 'falling down' (i only like the first 2 muse albums)
