1. After a twelve-year absence, there's a good chance you're going to get as close to a "greatest hits" show that PJ would ever do - and that's a good thing, to me.
  2. maybe they will play the whole Avocado and Backspacer hehe
  3. Hmmm...I don't know how well THAT would go over.

Were you at the Turin, 2006 gig? If so, how did the crowd react to hearing Avocado in its entirity? I'm sure they left pleased, however, as it was preceded and followed by MEGA-hits.

Although Andy Wood was a decent singer, and very charismatic, he was irritatingly arrogant. You can tell he is the kind of guy that, if he survived well into the 90s, would've been hated by Cobain. It's good that Vedder isn't arrogant, and is everything what Andy Wood was too. I personally think Mother Love Bone were mediocre, and would've been completely drowned by Nirvana in the grunge movement. Listening to some of the stuff on their album, it sounds weak.
It's also hard to watch because of his death. I mean, looking at Chris Cornell and Jeff Ament being so upset about it was just difficult to watch again. Once you get into PJ20, you start to really enjoy. I just cannot enjoy the Mother Love Bone bit though.

    I agree.Wood was a bit,over the top.He was a character.I really didnt like his voice much myself.

As for Cobain,he hated everyone. He was miserable, and thats why he offed himself. He hated Pearl Jam.He publicly mocked them many times.I think that his comments really upset Eddie Vedder.Nirvana were obvioulsly a very solid band.Nevermind, was of course a great release. In Utero was ok,Unplugged was very good. But,IMO,PJ were much better from 1991-1994.I enjoy Foo Fighters more than Nirvana as well.

Cobain hated Pearl Jam's music, but he appreciated them because fans of Nirvana also liked Pearl Jam, so therefore he had "nothing against them". In PJ20, when it shows that interview with Cobain, he says he doesn't like Eddie Vedder or the band. He then says "I've talked to him a few times on the phone, and he seems nice", and then it shows a video clip of them two dancing and hugging at the 1992 VMA's. Yes, I agree, Nirvana were a solid band, and Nevermind was stellar. But Pearl Jam were better (and more popular), plus Ten was a more spectacular release.

It's funny how people think that Nirvana were extremely popular in the early 90s, when Pearl Jam were actually the more popular band. Everyone has heard of Nirvana, but not everyone has heard of Pearl Jam. It's only because Cobain blew his brains out.

i wouldn't say that .. Nirvana were extremely popular already in 1991 .. it's not Cobain suicide that made them popular .. Nevermind and Smell like teen spirit topped number 1 in US for example and sold a lot almost everywhere .. PJ popularity came a bit later.
all the grunge movement became well known also thanks to Nirvana success.

True.Nevermind was massive in 1991.Ten didnt take off until some time in 1992,close to a year after its release. You couldnt go anywhere in '91,without hearing a tune from Nevermind.By the time he killed himself,PJ had taken over.Ten,Vs and Vitalogy were everywhere.Kurt then wacked himself.Like I said,he was miserable.

  9. "Just Verona and Milan"...LOL...poor you...LOL...2 great shows in Italy.
  10. Ok, yeah, Ten's popularity wasn't exactly instant, whereas Nevermind was. When I say "Pearl Jam were more popular than Nirvana", I don't mean 91 or 92, I mean after that. In Utero wasn't that good an album compared to Nevermind, and Vs. was almost on par with Ten for Pearl Jam, so PJ took over the popularity of Nirvana. Of course, Smells Like Teen Spirit was massive at the time, much to Nirvana's surprise.

But yes, I agree. Nirvana are the band that need to be thanked for grunge becoming massive and making the early 90s massively nostalgic.

Oh and also, when I said "Nirvana were more popular... because Cobain blew his brains out", I meant it in a way that, after he died, that was one of the main things Nirvana was remembered for. That's how I heard of Nirvana - the frontman who killed himself. And I'm pretty sure that's how many youngsters have heard of Nirvana at first hand.
  11. I am just adding my two cents to what was already stated:

Nevermind became popular quite quicky while Ten simmered for a little bit. "Teen Spirit" was (and deserved to be) huge while PJ classics like "Even Flow" and "Alive" were big but not AS big. The video for "Jeremy" definitely bolstered their accessiblity - and then they turned their backs on MTV and refused to create one for "Black" (which would have taken them to another absolutely insane level) or any other videos until 1998 - awesome move! Anyway, I think the overall consnsus was that PJ had a little more depth.

By the time the fall of 1993 came around (when both Vs and In Utero were released) the world loved PJ but seemed to be losing interest in Cobain and his antics. Reviews for In Utero were mixed while they were quite favourable for Vs. Cobain's attempts at suicide (sadly) increased his/Nirvana's popularity and it exploded when he eventually did himself in. Anyway, I don't think PJ benefitted from Cobain's suicide. In fact, I think they had a somewhat monumental task in creating something that would remove themselves from the whole ordeal. I've always felt that they succeeded with the release of Vitalogy.
