1. He's a twat. It's just selfish and ignorant. One comment, however, that I completely agreed with on that Facebook post:

Axl, you constantly start your shows late for your personnel diva reasons and now you deny all your long time fans (the very people that made you who you are) what they have wanted since the day after the GnR members went their own ways... a reunion. It does not matter how you feel about anything in regards to the past issues you have. Put your tail between your legs and get your ass on stage and accept this honor that has been givin upon you. Stand next to Slash, smile and show your thanks to the people that provided you with everything you own, the fans. I hope those that show up and accept the award are met with thunderous applause and that your shows go back to the small bars behind chicken wire. You have disrespected the fans. No matter how much you say you hope not to or it was not your intention to, you did. You took a huge crap on all the people that supported you over all these years. If any of the current GnR members have issues with you accepting this honor with the former GnR members, maybe you should remind them that all those songs they play with you are not their songs and they should stand aside while you and the former GnR members jam a couple tunes for the fans. As one fan since 87, I can say this is for sure, if you do not show up you will forever loose many of your longtime die hard fans over this. Hope it is worth it to you.
  2. what i said in a more complete and far better way
agreed with every single row he wrote .. very well said
  3. Axl only cares about one thing: Axl himself.

Most people have known and accepted this for ages. Spectacular bust ups between him and the others, with fans and other artists are all part of the show, but they also reflect Axl's personal/personality problems. Not that all of the others were always nice and easy...

Eddie van Halen used to call this affliction LSD: Lead Singer Disease, in reference to David Lee Roth, but EvH is a bit of a headcase himself. Axl is out there, but he's not unique in the history of troubled artists.

I guess I'm a bit casual and blasé about the whole thing. It was like this when we had to wait for Axl to get ready to even do a show (usually 1hour late), whether he was pissed off at himself, the audience, something imaginary, bandmates, whatever...it doesn't really matter.

You take what you can get with G'nR and if it's an albums that's ten years late, rubbish shows or this crazy carrot of a reunion hanging in front of us, we accept it. Most of the time we, as fans, get disappointed, but every once in a while it worked: about three albums worth of music and the occasional show.
  4. Maybe the whole thing is a publicity stunt and he'll show up in the end - or not (like the Sex Pistols a few years back).

    [..]

That is indeed a great (Facebook) post.

After seeng a (shitty) GNR concert in 2006, I had decided to take a pass on any further GNR show - unless Slash, Duff, Izzy, etc. returned. This will continue.
  6. Axl's a selfish cock. Completely agree with that FB post.
  7. Duff posted this on Seattle Weekly post ..

Izzy asked me to do him a favor and sort of get this out for him. Izzy don't Tweet, etc.

    Thanks.

    Duff

    Izzy's Statement:

I have waited up to this point to see what would become of the GNR induction into RRHOF. I would like to say THANK YOU and GRACIAS to RRHOF for the acknowledgement of our works over the years as a band. BIG THANKS to all my bandmates who helped get us to where we are today. And, of course, THANK YOU to all of the people on this planet (including, but not limited to, the entire universe and beyond, etc., etc., etc.) who have supported Guns N' Roses from day one. Adios, Amigos!

    Izzy Stradlin

    LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL!

it seems tonite Duff, Slash, Steven, Matt and Gilby Clarke will be at the induction ... with Myles Kennedy on vocals
  8. again from Seattle Weekly and again Duff ..

    Cleveland Will Rock!

I'm on a plane to Cleveland for a performance tomorrow night of my musical book-reading for It's So Easy. These things make me extremely nervous, as reading in front of people has turned out to be one of those things I just don't feel too comfortable with. I think a lot of people are coming because my band, GNR, will be inducted into the so-fancy Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

And on THAT night, I will honor not myself or the chicken dinner they will most surely provide, but I will be honoring all those people who call themselves the fans of our group called Guns N' Roses.

Adversity has followed this band since its inception. I get it. That seems to be my sort of "lot" in life . . . and I think that maybe through this whole sort of rub and honesty that GNR portrayed in a very real way in those early records indeed may have helped countless others overcome varying adversities in their own lives. It's a wonderful and poignant thing to hear from different fans from around this globe. I hope that I can do you all proud.

In the end, it's not about who does or doesn't show up from the original band, and I back whatever reason this guy or that has for not coming. It's all good. The songs are the important bit here . . . and the message they most certainly still must carry.

  9. Maybe Sheryl Crow(e?) or Fergie will show up to perfrom Sweet Child O' Mine.

  10. Myles Kennedy is there tonight as is Alice Cooper. Axl is a twat to leave it so late (especially given in that interview he did earlier this year he made it sound like he'd like to be there) but ah well. The others can enjoy the honour.
  11. If Myles Kennedy sings with Guns N' Roses, then that would be absoutely fantastic. And it will piss off Axl too.
  12. Thing is, even if he just got up there and didn't even play a song - shook hands, did a quick speech and went home, it'd have shown those watching and in attendance that he's actually decided to make half an effort.

As it stands, he left it too late and it's his own fault if someone else decides to take his place. Maybe he feels this is not the GnR he believes in and that's why he's not attended, or he feels out of place because it's not really a band and it hasn't been to most of the world since 1994. I like this new line-up - they're a great set of musicians together - but most people don't care about the 800 line-up changes since TSI.

It's also incredible to look at all those that have been core musicians over the years for this band (singles, short stints, long-time members). You have:

    Axl Rose
    Tracii Guns
    Slash
    Robin Finck
    Buckethead
    Bumblefoot
    DJ Ashba
    Izzy Stradlin
    Gilby Clarke
    Paul Tobias
    Richard Fortus
    Ole Beich
    Duff McKagan
    Tommy Stinson
    Rob Gardner
    Steven Adler
    Matt Sorum
    Josh Freese
    Brian Mantia
    Frank Ferrer
    Dizzy Reed
    Chris Pittman
    Dave Navarro

Axl's thoughts on the Hall Of Fame to That Metal Show:

I don't know what it means in terms of me with the old band and the old lineup," ... "If we were to be invited, I don't know what they would ask of me. It's up in the air.
