Actually I thought the Vertigo tour was better than 360. 360 was a good tour, but the setlist pacing was lacking up until the last leg. Vertigo was a better version of the Elevation tour to me. Again, Elevation was a good tour also, but I thought Vertigo was better.
The only negative to it for me were the indoor stage was sort of vanilla and I will agree the transition from Pride to Streets did not work all that well. I think that is why Streets did not have the impact it did on other tours.
Otherwise it was a solid tour with some fantastic setlists IMO.
I'll now add a most non-constructive part to this discussion, but i just have to say this:
in 2005, during the Vertigo tour, I attended my first U2 concert ever. No online forum or discussions had spoiled me before. All I can say is.... that concert was magic. Pure magic. From beginning to end. It was a life-changing experience, look at where I am now
So.... looking back today, of course I can pick out things that weren't so cool now that I know so much more of U2 concerts. But back then, that night, the Vertigo tour brought magic to my life. It was perfect. And as such, I will keep it in my heart
I really enjoyed the Vertigo Tour. The band, for the first time, rotated 3 different songs (Vertigo,COBL,L&POE) as an opener,in the same year (2005).Also,unlike Elevation,PoP and 360,the encore changed almost every night.
I attended 4 shows that year, and LOVED hearing An Cat Dubh/Into The Heart,Bad,Electric Co,The Ocean,The Fly,Gloria and 40.Great mix of Boy with the Bomb tunes.
It was nice that they brought back some "oldies" for this tour, I just don't find myself listening to these shows like I do the other four tours from the past two decades. In fact, only Miss Sarajevo (which was way better during Vertigo than 360) and Yahweh (beautiful acoustic version) are really all l like to listen to on a regular basis.
Love the setlist experimentation in the beginning of the leg, Bono and Larry on Love And Peace, WITS, the glorious returns of Zoo Station, Horses, and many Boy songs
However the Africa Rising wasn't the best transition to Streets and performances of songs like The Fly, Streets, Bullet, and SBS were a bit dull imo
One of the best shows I've been at was Chicago on the 3rd or 4th leg of the Vertigo tour (it was the Sept 21st show) Popmart was by far the weakest, they were lost in thier own irony. But again, just MY opinion. What is the best show of their lives for some is probably the worst show for others.
Streets on the Vertigo tour really lost it's oomph for me, and redeemed on 360. EBTTRT was a nice way to open some of the 360 shows and by the end of the tour the set list seemed to flow a little better. Opening with Breath seemed like an anti-climax for some reason.
