1. If they tour again after all this break-up rumours, tickets are going to be impossible to get.

    That's what they want!!!!

But seriously, Neil makes some great points. I think he's hit a few nails on their heads in that article. Plus, seeing as how he knows them personally, he can probably make heads or tails of Bono's rambling better than any of us!

  3. I thought this was a great read and it did make a lot of sense. I think they have something to prove now so they will at least try to go out in a blaze of glory. They should try and get future singles to show up anywhere (ie. iPod commerical again) and do popular shows like Ellen. She has said that U2 are one of the acts she dreams about having on her show.
  4. Also I understand why you guys say they should stick to the music and do what they want with it but I think it's insane to not want to be relevant. You want your music to reach as many people as possible and you want people to know who you are/to make $$$. Anyone who doesn't shouldn't be trying. Just go sing for your family and friends or better yet, in the shower.
  5. Let me be (probably not) the first to ask. Just what the hell does Bono mean by "remaining relevant" anyway? Does he mean being number 1 on the charts? Does he mean having music that changes the world? They're relevant to their fans and it's quite obvious that their music is STILL DAMN RELEVANT when they have the highest grossing tour of all time, where every show sells out an average of 70,000 people.

I never fully understood what Bono meant by that. U2 is probably the biggest band in the world, and even if they release a shit album, they'll still maintain that position. They've had that position since the late 80's. I'd say that they're on the edge of becoming a novelty act and not releasing anything groundbreaking in terms of outside of their own limits, rather than being on the edge of relevancy. If Bono can still perform for Bill Clinton, and can still make political claims that don't go unheard, then they're still relevant.

What they have to do is release an album that's completely unexpected, and that will sell a lot. The latter is really unimportant to me, but that's the obvious thing that they want. They want to make an album that shakes up people's perception of them, that can still break the bank. NLOTH was a half-attempt at both, without success. I don't really think it's a matter of relevance though, I think it's a word that's being used incorrectly if anything.
  6. Nice post.

If it makes Bono feel any better, I don't think too many of today's new acts are that "relevant." Of course, I'm pushing 40 so what do I know (or care!).
  7. I forgot to mention: Bono's twitts are pretty sugestive!!

But let's just not forget something: where's Adam, Larry and Edge? They haven't made any kind of statement.

A serious intention of breaking up the band wouldn't just come from Bono, rather than at least, the founder of the band. It would be great to know what's on Larry's mind about the thing.

Anyway, it would be OK for me if they decide to stop at this point. They accomplished their mission in music, they don't need to prove anything else.

They'd rather leave the thing as it is right now than keeping going forth over and over; it would be a shame to watch them on stage in their 60's, trying to revive ther past glories.

Where oh where can one see those tweets?
  9. bono has twitter?
  10. Yeah, I think they should give up trying to be 'relevant' - they're way too old for that and rock music is not what it was back in the 80s or even 90s.

They should be like Radiohead and focus on making music solely for it's own sake and not try to write hit singles or chase the mainstream.
