1. I don't think they'd close the show with an old song on a regular basis unless it was 40, but I'm liking that list

I know a lot of people think New York is pretty vanilla, but I love that song, it's such a great vibe.

    totally agree about NY

  3. Same here

And I'd love if they finish the shows with Out Of Control like they did in East Rutherford 2011 (and other shows I can't remember)
  4. I really liked how All I Want is You, Out of Control, 40 and One Tree Hill closed the shows every now and then sporadically. I really wish they would do that again next tour. One night 40, another Bad, another new song, another Vertigo, another OOC, etc.
  5. It would be awesome, but I'd rather not discount what might be a great closer on the next album. I still think 40 is the ultimate U2 show closer, but I also think Love is Blindness/Can't Help Falling In Love was an amazing closer for the ZooTV show, 40 would never have worked there and I don't think many or any other U2 songs would have either. There might be something like that on the next album!
  6. I honestly don't see the appeal of Love Is Blindness. I think it's a very depressing song and doesn't really fit in U2's discography. U2 has a lot of political and seemingly antagonistic songs, but none of them are as purely dark as Love Is Blindness. Personally, I don't think U2 does dark very well at all. I feel if it were performed today as a show closer, people would be leaving the venue early.

While it's yet to be seen if U2 decides they want to close the show with a powerful yet tame song such as 40, Bad, or All I Want Is You, or finish things off with a high energy tune such as OOC or Vertigo (yes, I still see Vertigo as a viable show closer), I honestly hope U2 doesn't go in the direction of Love Is Blindness. But the more I think about it, I think they should try to get a high energy song on the new album to close out their shows. Looking at the other rock shows going on, you've got The Killers almost always ending with When You Were Young, Coldplay ending with Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, and Muse ending with Survival (still don't know how that works, but I guess it does). All these high energy songs leave a lasting impression and I think U2 fans would appreciate the fact that the band can still finish a gig with that level of energy.
  7. I only meant in terms of a "new" closer and not a song that's already been established as a possible closer. I didn't really mean the feeling or tone of the song. I also agree about it not really working in present day, it's not what U2 is known for anymore (which is why I'm still surprised they closed almost every 360 show with Moment of Surrender) but I think for the tour and the time it worked extremely well. ZooTV was all about being overloaded with imagery and sound, and to end the show by saying "love is blindness, I don't want to see" was the perfect ending to that, Behind all of the "cool bullshit" and crazy shit it was all pure emotion and not all of it was cheerful and happy. The Macphisto and Mirrorball characters were meant to be dried up popstars who were caricatures of different ideas of commercialism and fascism and everything else we all already know as U2 fans. Love Is Blindness was PERFECT to sum that up, and closing with I Can't Help Falling In Love With You is like the ultimate "walking back home with my tail between my legs" thing where you can't tell if it was these characters singing or Bono singing to the crowd.

Not that that's over with, I totally disagree with U2 not doing dark too well, but it also depends on what you mean by dark. I consider Sunday Bloody Sunday extremely dark, same with songs like Exit, Bullet, Wake Up, October, etc. I think they can do it when they want to and I won't say it's something U2 shouldn't try to do anymore.

Basically I'd rather get a curveball show closer even though hearing any of the songs you mentioned to close the show would be awesome, whether it's high energy and exciting or deep and dark like Love is Blindness.
  8. Agreed, ideally they would get a high energy song of the latest album. MOS worked for me, I don't care if they want to get another "beautiful" song like that from the new album as long as it's GOOD. They need to not have anymore "cringeworthy" songs or lyrics imo that's what killed almost all the NLOTH songs

the new album just needs to be good because we know they can retreat and do an epic "greatest hits" show based off older songs.
  9. Much will depend on how the new LP will sound. Much of TUF worked fine with NLOTH, as we saw on the first two legs.

I'm more referring to the dark sound as opposed to lyrical content. Most of the songs you listed, SBS, Exit, Bullet, do have darker lyrics than most, but the sound itself isn't very dark. Love Is Blindness just sounds like a very dark song.

Regardless, I'd still like them to bring out a high energy closer with the new album.
  11. Pipe Dream Alert: So, somebody would have to kidnap the band, and probably threaten Ca$h McCashus to withold lunch from him, but like any other website, our dreams can live here.

First of all, I take my idea about having a Stadium tour and Arena Tour at the same time and plug it in here. I know there are tons of people who somehow believe it is not technically possible to tour both Stadiums and Arenas at the same time. Just read the Rolling Stones tour history. It's possible. It's even easy if you make the Arena show so stripped down you would think you were at a Flock of Seagulls concert in 1982.

They would play 3 shows in 7 days in each city on Both legs of the tour in Europe and the USA. Maybe 2 Europe Legs and 2 USA Legs. Each leg hitting 15 big cities, so 45 shows spread out over 18 weeks. Yes, the tour would take forever to finish

All Legs of the tour would feature the same setlist for the Stadium Show. Greatest Hits show? Well, sort of. Their biggest hits would be in the show, but here's where it gets shocking:

    Stadium Show:

Joshua Tree Album(58:00) (Including time between songs/extended parts on some songs)
Achtung Baby Album(62:00) ( Also Including time between songs/extended parts on some songs)

    Encore:
    Spanish Eyes
    Party Girl
    40

    Arena Show # 1 :
(Maybe a new song or two thrown in from the next album they will stop promoting early)
    I Will Follow
    Out of Control
    A Day Without Me
    The Electric Co.
    Gloria
    I Threw a Brick Through a Window
    Fire
    October
    Sunday Bloody Sunday
    Seconds
    New Year's Day
    The Refugee
    Two Hearts Beat as One
    Surrender
    A Sort of Homecoming
Pride (In the Name of Love)
    Wire
    The Unforgettable Fire
    Bad
    MLK

    Encore:
    11 O'Clock Tick Tock
    Party Girl
    40

    Arena Show # 2:
(Maybe a new song or two thrown in from the next album they will stop promoting early)
    Desire
    Hawkmoon 269
    Angel of Harlem
    When Love Comes to Town
    Heartland
    God Part II
    All I Want Is You
    Zooropa
    Babyface
Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car
Some Days Are Better Than Others
    Dirty Day
    The Wanderer
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
    Discothèque
    Do You Feel Loved
    Mofo
If God Will Send His Angels
    Staring at the Sun(Electric)
    Last Night on Earth
    Gone
    Miami

    Encore:
    The Playboy Mansion
If You Wear That Velvet Dress
    Please

The first Leg would be Europe with Arena Show #1
The second Leg would be the USA with Arena Show #1
The third Leg would be Europe with Arena Show #2
The fourth Leg would be the USA with Arena Show #2

The fifth Leg might hit 10 cities in other parts of the world.

This would be around 190 shows taking about 80 weeks.

Since each city got 3 shows, the travel would be less hectic, so 15 cities in 18 weeks wouldn't be too hard. U2360 took parts of 3 years, so my monster would only take a year and a half.

Big Weakness: There would only be room for a few new songs each night. U2 gave up on NLOTH early, and will probably give up on whatever the new album is early, since no matter how good it is, old people do not have hit singles anymore.
  12. In the history of U2 touring, no song ever debuted the tour after its supporting tour. That said, it is unlikely for Stand Up Comedy, Fez-Being Born, White As Snow and Cedars Of Lebanon to make an appearance on the next tour.

Also, One, Beautiful Day, Vertigo and City of Blinding Lights didn't miss a show since their debuts. Therefore, it is very unlikely that One and Beautiful Day will be dropped from the setlist.
