1. Thanks Sergio. Although I was not hiding, just mysteriously lurking in the corner
  2. On a related note, my parents have informed me that a small package has arrived from U2.com.

I know I've got something great waiting for me when I come home to visit.
  3. What´s good about this album:
*For the first time a U2-album sounds like it´s made by good musicians. The sound is contemporary, and not at all what they´ve sounded like before.
*The theme. The album is coherent both in sound and lyrically. This is not 11 songs forged into an album, this is an album made of 11 songs.
*Some of the songs combine strong melodies with odd arrangements and great sounds. Sleep Like A Baby, Raised By Wolves, The Miracle and others are so fresh - and the ultra strange guitar solo on Chrystal Ballroom is so weird you can´t but love it!

What´s not so good about this album:
*For the first time a U2-album sounds like it´s made by studio musicians. Some of what used to make U2 unique is actually missing nowadays.
*Bono´s voice. I used to love his voice: the passion, the beauty, the strength. Now it´s so strained and lacks nuances all over - listen to the end lines on Beautiful Ghost and compare it to his singing on SOI and you'll know what I mean.
*The melodies are not as strong as the theme and the sound. Where are the larger than life choruses we´ve been so spoilt with? Acoustic Every Breaking Wave is great and The Troubles likewise, but so many songs are filled with so many words, that they are hard to learn and sing along to.
*This is the pop record they wanted to do after Pop. I miss the rock. Waiting for SOE :-)

I'm with you on what you think is good about the album but so many disagreements with that you think isn't good about it...

forgive my ignorance (I can't reach ITunes at work) but anyone who knows what this 'special suprise' is?

I agree completely with the good.

    Not all, not so good.

I like Bono's voice on this album, he sounds better than the lat 10 years.

It is a compliment that the album sounds like made by studio musicians, It is good doing things not done before by them. (although it is going to be a difficult job playing the songs full band live).

You are right that there is nog larger than life song on SOI, this means to me that the album is very coherent.

The more I listen to SOI, the more I love this album. It has passed NLOTH, HTDAB.

  8. Invisible, ofcourse.
  9. I agree on Bono's voice. Its just too whiney/strained now for my taste
  10. Anyone has any idea what the response of the general public is ?

Most (all) people that I know and listened to it think it's really bad...
Reviews over here were almost always negative as well.
