1. The friday version on Jools Holland is still the best imo.
  2. Really beautiful and powerfull version! I felt something amazing when the drum came on...
  3. I just watched the EMA's version.
It's still a great song but frankly, I get a bit tired of all this vocal showing off.....
Seems like Bono has a bet running on how long he can hold a note this time until he gets out of breath and forgets the next line he is going to sing. Cringeworthy really. Now stop fooling around and play the full electric version please!

that that that that that that
  5. The reason that some of you are likely getting tired of it is probably due to the fact that you're watching every performance. 95% or more of the viewers last night hadn't seen that performance yet, and some of that percentage were probably saying "wow, didn't know he could sing like that". Of course we all know it because we've seen it a few times already. U2 aren't performing for us right now, the fans who are hanging onto every video or performance they do. They're playing for the people who aren't their fans yet, or who just became fans. That's why it's called a "promo" tour. We've all already bought the album and heard this performance. Many haven't. I feel as though some people forget that.

EDIT: I loved it. I think Larry coming out in the smoke and starting to bang on the drums is so dramatic and awesome. Gave me the bumps.

    I agree.

No no no, I'm not tired of it. What you said is basically the same argument than for defending their staple, full-of-warhorses setlist: they don't play for the 10% of hardcores in the crowd, but for the 90% of casual fans, etc etc

I'm just saying that I don't like how Bono is currently using this song to show off that he still has it as a singer. I posted this a few weeks ago, just after the first performance of the song:

Which is a shame
The Jo Whiley and Australian 60 Minutes performances were in the right path, a bit more relaxed, spot on, without excessive vocal stress... But he just did it wrong again last night Judging by the twitter comments I read, the general audience was impressed with his vocals though (and most of them obviously didn't spot the mistake in the lyrics lol), so I guess it's good anyway.

Maybe I just don't mind hearing the B-man kicking ass this late in their career I'd rather hear Bono showing off his vocal prowess than croaking his way through an easier song. The fact that the man still has those pipes after the rough patches he went through vocally is awesome. But I'm not saying you don't feel that way, I understand where you're coming from.

Plus i just love the acoustic version to bits and there's not much they can do with it that would bother me
  9. Yeah I agree! Every Breaking Wave was my favorite on the album, but when I heard the acoustic version for the first time, I won't lie, but I had tears. It was beautiful and it was the first time a U2 song really struck me like that. I remember buying How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb when I was 12 and Sometimes kind of made me feel like that, but I feel like I was too young to really "get it." Sure I want to hear the electric version too, but as of right now, if they choose to do acoustic, that is more than okay with me. Bono is on fire (He's in his mid 50's guys) and that moment when Larry comes in is just heavy on the heart and that crescendo is heavy on the soul. I love it.
  10. I guess Every Breaking Wave is one of the few benefits of doing the duo show set-up, one acoustic and one electric
  11. Source U2 gigs:

If you are wondering why U2 are now pushing "Every Breaking Wave" instead of "The Miracle", that's because it is the second single off Songs of Innocence. It has reportedly been distributed to radio stations in North America, and now Universal Italy have confirmed on Facebook that "Every Breaking Wave" is the band's new single. Further reports indicate that the performance recorded for Australia's 60 Minutes, which you can watch below, has been distributed as a promo clip.
