I like it much more than on the album now. (I could live without the Beach Boys snippet tho)

    Nope!

The synth is what brings this tune into the new age and makes it super different and awesome. I'm sick of that classic Edge sound I think a lot of other U2 fans are as well. It's a nice change to have swelling synth in the chorus. The chorus suffers a lot without it.

I have to admit that I heard California in the car for the last time last night, while driving back from some friends' concert... And it felt great turned up full up, the Killers-esque synths at full volume, windows down and the Autumn breeze... Felt great. My GF loves it too
I'm usually no fan of the synth sound but I'm starting to appreciate it.

I still hate the intro though.
  3. The intro is awesome.

    You'll get there

But that's how I discovered how great it was. I loved it upon first hearing it, but rocking it loud in a car with the windows open is just where this song thrives.
  5. The CDTF releases its first talking point, a live performance of the song.
  6. way better live
  7. here's a clearer vid of he performance on Jools, better than the one U2 gigs has posted.

  8. As a fellow member of CDTF my professional opinion is... I love it! The outro can be extended but overall it was great. Keep the snippets coming.
  9. This is making me rethink everything I thought I knew about the acoustic sessions. I now firmly believe that the acoustic session was a dry-run to work some of their favorite songs into more live-friendly forms. This performance is a perfect example of that. They took the intro from the acoustic version along with the way Bono does the "oh oh" segments and combined it with what people liked about the electric version. I think it's incredibly strong as it as, but adding some well placed snippets and giving letting Edge mix up the guitar solos will make this song even stronger.

And we thought the main talking point of this promo tour was going to be how many times it took for Bono to get Every Breaking Wave just right. Things are looking good.
  10. Totally rock! (And yes, the U2.com version is better.)
