Is this just me having another moment of ignorance or has he played a few different LPs for said songs?

Pre-Popmart (ZOO TV) he played them on the cream LP. New Year's Day was played on a Strat up until then, and even during the first few legs of Zoo TV, I believe.

I knew NYD wasn't always played on an LP, but I just mean that when it was auctioned off, it was known as the "New Year's Day LP Custom" - just seems odd in that respect. The one I was more focussing on was UTEOTW because I always thought he played that on the cream LP, but I guess it's not exactly implausible that he used different guitars now and then lol...

Cheers Jeff - I think this suggests I've spent too much time watching ZooTV lol...I'll have to watch Boston again soon lol! I always assumed he played the same guitar for UTEOTW and NYD, but I think this was down to watching ZooTV so much in recent months lol...

The goldtop has such an awesome tone

I saw two 1983 30th Anniversary Goldtops at Guitar Center Hollywood; in the vintage room. Two weeks later - gone. I asked who bought them... the guy there said "Oh I think you know who". His knowing that I love U2... seems he was hinting at Edge and/or Dallas.
  6. REM and U2 being friends with one another... interesting observations at last nights REM show.

Peter Buck played 26 songs on the following
Rickenbacker 360 (Jetgo finish) [His main - used most of the show]
Rickenbacker 330 (Burgundyglo finish) [Tuning specific / Used only once]
Rickenbacker 620/12 string (Jetglo finish) [Used for a few songs, including "Supernatural Superserious" and "Electrolite" Fender Telecaster Custom (black finish) [Tuning specific / used for "Ignoreland"]
Taylor Jumbo 620 (natural finish) used for all Peter's acoustic playing.

    I think that was it.

Scott McCaughhey, REM's touring guitarist/keyboardist played:
Eastwood Hi-Flyer. Similar to a Mosrite
    Jerry Jones Neptune 12 string
    Gretsch Silver Jet.
    Taylor acoustic 620 (tobacco finish)

My point... REM did 26 songs on approx 10 guitars whilst The Edge... Uses 10 guitars in the first 10-12 songs.

I bet Dallas might sometimes WISH that he could cut the herd down to a dozen.

Not that I'm complaining. I love all of The Edge's guitars!

All hail The Edge's glorious guitar collection! (Hail!)

A U2 gig wouldn't be right without at least 10-15 changes of guitars by Monsieur L'Edge (Hail hail!)

The trained eye/mind would also be able to half-guess what song was coming up next based on what guitar he was being handed

    EDIT -

PS - Jeff, your sites dedicated to the band and their equipment, I could help noticing that on Edge's pages, you had some classic pictures of Edge whilst he was playing or during a pause or something !

PPS - 2 quick questions, do you know how long Edge had been playing both One and New Year's Day on the cream LP custom(s)?

Rhonda took delight in asking me "what song is next" based on what guitar The Edge was being handed. Prould to say, I was spot on on all accounts.

    Who's Jeremy?

Edge has been using the LP for NYD since the ZOO tours.
    - Sydney

He began using it for ONE during the Elevation tour. Although, post Katrina... Edge was sporting the 2005 Gibson Music Rising Les Paul Standard (mardi gras finish), for live airings of ONE.

    - 2003 Special Olymptics

For ZOO tours Edge was using the Gibson ES330TD
    - Lakeland rehearsal

For Popmart Edge was using a 1964 or `65 Gretsch Country Gentleman
    - Las Vegas
    - Buenos Aires
  9. I paid a visit to The Edge's auctioned 1975 Gibson Les Paul Custom. Some of the pics came out good and some didn't. Guess I've a reason to visit it again tomorrow then ?!?!?

Up close there is one thing VERY noticeable - it's beat to shit! Tons of nicks. There a screw ot two missing from the pickup rings and the buckle rash on the back... But there is NO denying that The Edge has played some great sounding guitar on this.

Here's the pics that I got...

  10. Firstly, ah shit! Sorry dude, dunno why I said Jeremy... sincere apologies mate!

    (Consider said typo changed...)

Secondly, cheers for the info. - thanks for clearing that up for me

Thirdly, nice pics! And you're rightly, that poor thing really is mauled lol - he didn't even throw that one around after losing his rag during a show either! (or at least, I don't think he did...)

No worries. Hope I answered you questions.

    Go HERE now: http://global01.auctionnetwork.vfx.com/LiveAuction.asp

They are on items 268 - U2 stuff is in the late 300's

  12. This may have already been asked but I'm not sure. Has Edge ever used this Fender Jaguar live or in the studio? We know he probably bought it in Manhattan circa Elevation, and we saw it in the Electrical Storm music video. Here it looks like its being used in some performance at HQ. Can anyone shed some light on this, or direct me to where it was already discussed?
