No offence taken trust me.While a flat bat is obviously easier to hit a ball with than a round one, it needs to be remembered that cricket bowlers bounce the ball on the pitch before it gets to the batsman which raises the degrees of difficulty significantly. Because the ball can bounce, it can also spin off the wicket which is not something you see in baseball.

While soccer/football is a religion in many countries, cricket is ours to a large extent. I guess our climate suits, it's heavily reliant on good weather for five days straight in the longer version of the game. It's our national sport. Give us a backyard, a bat and ball and we're all set. Many hours of enjoyment around the barbecue. But in India they're fanatical!
