  3. When it comes down to it, its all about timing. JT glam metal ruled U2 went the other way. AB came out everyone was heading towards grunge being uncool, U2 one again went the other way.

    and of course Achtung Baby is a 'modern classic', it's the best album ever made by anyone. Nothing else comes close to it's epicness.
  10. AB all the way, all the songs are very different and very listenable.

    JT while undoubtedly second, is a bit repetitive with the constant use of desert,fire and American imagery and not all of the songs are great, unlike AB which has basically no weak songs.

    I see mostly American's/Canadian's put JT in front, which explains itself.
    And the rest put it in front mainly for sentimental reasons ie. it was the first U2 album I bought etc.

    They're both masterpieces though. With regards to influence and cultural impact, JT is the album that defined U2, giving birth to the 'Holy Trinity' of signature songs.

    But if you look at them as records without sentimental bias, AB has more great songs than JT (which is a record greater than the sum of its parts), and that is why it is better.

    PS: and why is Prince #1 on that list???
  11. My view on this is that opinions are like arseholes, everone's got one. My arsehole reckons that JT and AB are both masterpieces. I rate JT slightly better mainly because there is constant style throughout the album and it was an album totally different at the time. AB has a bunch of great songs that was a massive leap forward for the band. To leave JT off this list is frankly a joke.

    I rate AB a little bit higher. JT's still on the list, but it should be in the top 10 for sure.
