    Zoo TV and PopMart, which are seen as U2's best, had themes. Media and consummerism. They embraced it so the parody would work. And it did. Elevation, to me, was a best of, very intimate. Didn't they feel it was their last tour? However, the Vertigo tour was a best of. Just a rock show. To me, it was the stereotypical U2 show. They even cut the acoustic section created from Zoo TV. U2 became so much for promoting the newer stuff and their hits they forgot their fans.

    Hopefully this tour and album we will see U2 remembering who they were and who their fanbase is.

    Erm...I respectfully disagree but it's all about opinions lol...

    ...from what I remember, the band thought ZooTV was gonna be their last tour for a while after the fiasco with Adam in Sydney, hence why the performances of WOWY, LIB etc. are highly emotional affairs. And with Vertigo, I don't think that the band "forgot" the audience whatsoever. I don't think they ever have. I don't mean that they're saints, but they've always made it clear that they value the relationship between band and fan, hence the good ties that Jeff often refers to and why we should respect it. If they didn't place their fans as high priorities, would they have bothered with the 5th leg of the tour? Visiting the places they were forced to miss out on Elevation?

    Be glad they're not Towers Of London lol...

    True, however the set for the Vertigo tour did seem a bit expected, right? They certainly poured their heart and soul into the songs, but to me the setlist thing killed the tour. Some songs just need to go away, y'know? Plus they axed the acoustic thing on the Vertigo tour. Maybe that was a Vertigo thing. Hopefully it was.

    I'm anticipating the return of the B-Stage and acoustic section.
  7. Anticipation..well, I can remember ATYCLB and HTDAAB but I wasn't that active on the internet. It would have been different in the early days of course..I just hope the anticipation for this album will be worth it. It's time..time for a great and awesome album.

    Agreed, the B-Stage went but I don't think the setlist thing was any "worse" than any other tour! ZooTV and PopMart were far more predictable than Vertigo or Elevation - yes, the latter two had the odd setpiece or two (e.g. the latter half of the mainset was pretty much the same, and with Elevation it pretty much always opened with Elevation >> BD >> UTEOTW, and then Bad or AIWIY would segue into Streets, but that was it. Other than that, the setlists always different to some extent. PopMart, christ, I can think of perhaps 2 or 3 setlists where there were a couple of alterations, and ZooTV was the most predictable of the lot! I'm not complaining, I just don't think it's a valid criticism to say that the setlist killed the tour...

    But they need to skip Pride and drastically change SBS in some way. Although I wanne hear the old SBS live when I'm finally there.

    Nah, I'm actually growing back into Pride personally - no, it shouldn't be a staple part of EVERY setlist, agreed, but it should still be retained it my opinion. I'd quite like to see SBS reformatted so that it's more like Wake Up Deadman. My favourite version is still Edge's solo version on the PopMart DVD, I think it has so much more power. I like the JT versions, the way Larry and Adam come in and speed everything up, and I've just heard (what I think to be) an awesome version from the Torino Elevation show, but that's more because it's Bono really getting taken away with the song and using the quieter moments to give it all he's got from the heart...

    You got me lol. I think my dislike for the Vertigo tour comes from the lack of outstanding performances in the US. Either that or to me it's the worse tour for me IMO. You can't really compete with Zoo TV and PopMart. Elevation had Slane, The Fly, and the post 9/11 concerts. The Joshua Tree and Lovetown tours were also great, because they had whole cover tunes (Stand By Me or People Get Ready to name some goodies). Looking at it now Vertigo looks good on the outside, maybe a bit on the inside, but only in the right venues. Plus they did feature too many songs off HTDAAB. You can't really have BD and Miracle Drug in the same show.....

    Well, how could they change it? They went without the drum intro right off for the Joshua Tree, unwanted in Zoo TV, it went meaningful with PopMart. Then for Elevation it always souded great (was it in lower key?). For Vertigo it fit with the Love and Peace thing. I'm sure U2 will have its place with the next tour.
