I respectfully disagree... fanclub memberships and ticketing have gone hand in hand since Propaganda, as far as U2 is concerned. That said, it is the norm with most bands these days. It is an attempt to get the tickets to the fans and not the brokers, first and foremost.

Paying for the priviledge to get tickets first? Sounds bad at face value but that isn't the whole story.

That said, another GREAT way to combat the brokers is what Bruce Springsteen did on his solo tour a few years ago.
    - You used your credit card to buy tickets
    - All tickets were will call at the ticket window.
    - You had to show your ID and the CC used to buy the tickets to get the tickets.

    U2 should consider that idea.

    That's a good idea.

I think Led Zepplin did that at their reunion gig and it was a noted success, i just wish the police would get involved more, touts are easy to spot. With Muse at Wembley, you could not walk down Wembley Way without being confronted by touts.

Oh yes i like the sound of that!! Much better although I can envisage some very long queues!!
I see your point mate...i think we both have valid points and I suppose at the end of the day its impossible to please everyone!

But yes the point is to get tickets away from these evil scalpers....i cannot belive that those higher up in the industry are not taking important strides to prevent this..hopefully a new, high-tech distribution system will soon come out to please every1!

I just hope my stubbornness doesnt mean I lose out on tickets this time!!!

  4. I wanna get a subscription for August, because I figure if I'm gonna spend $50, its gonna be on something good, like presale tix. Then again, U2 signed that Live Nation thing, so things might change.

I would certainly hope that there would be a nice transition to a new system for the members who have repaid
  6. (prolly been mentioned plenty of times...)

Pearl Jam's system (like the mentions of Springsteen's) is perfect

all will call, photo ID matching the name on credit card is the only way to pick up the tix. it virtually kills all scalping...at least for the fan club portion

U2 is crazy not to adapt some sort of similar system, if its done just like Vertigo the scalpers will continue to rape U2's fans over and over. A simple "Fan Club Pre-Sale" is not enough any more, because the scalpers just join the club and participate, but getting rid of printed/shipped tickets all together cuts them off at the knees...they can't sell something they can't physically get. (until day of the show as you walk into venue, and then it's too late to re-sell)

EDIT: and no, i'm not a U2.com member, but will be soon as the new record/tour gets closer....
  7. Currently no, never have been. Never had enough money to be a paid member really, though I think I might sign up for 2009 and subsequent years.

Same here, hopefully. And I think gigfx should get in touch with the band and remind them about Pearl Jam's arrangements! lol.
  9. Well, I finally took the plunge and bought a membership. Even if it doesn't help me get tickets to the show, I at least have access to a crappy website (U2.com) and I can look good in my U2 Go Home t-shirt from outside the arena.....

Oh, and check out this confirmation page I got when I completed my order. A sign of the way things are run over there?

    I assume you mean your U2start t-shirt

Hahaha, it's getting funnier and funnier with U2.com

  11. If it was the only thing that's wrong at their website. It's just silly to give new members such a message.
