Pop, the underrated Pop, now being hailed because the club scene is now bigger than ever.
to defend electronic/club music.. it was my first love and it came out well before u2's pop.
as far as the individual songs go for pop.. i dont hear techno influences at all. period. on achtung baby! yes, definately techno influenced.
yes u2's popmart was the "rave" rock n roll show, but raves and club music was along well before the POP album. paul oakenfold, sasha, digweed, paul van dyk, pete tong, dj icey, frankie bones, danny teneglia, ralph rosario, BT, Keoki, Prodigy, Chemical Bros, etc.. these guys made the club scene what it is today.
u2 was the only rock band i think that took a stab at electronic music.
being heavily involved in the club music scene and seeing how dead it is (at least here in tampa) i don't think trance influences will go over well. probably in europe though.
