I have to agree with all of these. And God knows that "Sometimes..." was playing in my head from the moment I heard my dad had a heart attack (last year) to when he died a few days later.

Seems Bono and I have a lot in common, when it comes to our relationships with our fathers... and their not being here any longer... And like the video says in the beginning, I wished I'd knew my dad better too...

..."Sometimes..." and the Vertigo tour versions of "Kite" still get me every time... especially the Kite bit where Edge just goes off at the end... (sigh)

Must have been a rough time for you mate. Good to see that U2 means so much more than music alone. And what music can do and mean to the human heart.
  2. Ive been trying to find some where to put this qustion, could any one tell me what the lyrics to smile is all about as i play it all the time but have no idea what the song is about . With alll the other u2 songs i can day dream about singing it to someone or i know what its about but the lyrics for this one sends my head spinning as i dont know who or what he is singing to or about. Sorry if this sounds like a strange question, even someones interpratation of the song will do. I really like this song but i just want ,,,,,,,,,erm ,,,,,,to understand it more.
    Thankyou.
  3. Mothers of the Disappeared. Cuts me in half this song.
  4. Kite
  5. "i stand with the sons of cain" from in God's country

I don't understand this quote. Bono and the boys are such christian going people lyrically but here Bono says he stands with the son of cain.. cain was against God.. I don't understand it at all..

Bono if you are reading please private message me

I've had trouble understanding this one too. Maybe Bono meant that he, like cain, has sinned and is not perfect?
  7. Naked flame
She stands with a naked flame
I stand with the sons of Cain
Burned by the fire of love
Burned by the fire of love

Probably means that like everyone else, we have sinned somehow (to Christian theory). I don't believe in Christianity, but I used to.

  9. Thought I'd join in with this. There are so many contenders. Right now the ones I can think of off the top of my head are, the entire second verse of Kite (esp. 'I wonder what's gonna happen to you, you wonder what has happened to me') and all of So Cruel, because it just is. ('I'm only hanging on to watch you go down'? Ouch!) And Love Is Blindness. Actually, I could have a field day picking out bits of AB but I will refrain!
  10. exit, acrobat, love is blidness, seconds, until the end of world....but the most sadness song is tomorrow....i can cry on this song.....specialy version in glasgow 1983 war tour at the tiffanys
  11. Kite is sad, because everyone has to let go of someone close to them in their life, whether we want to or not. There is a bit of hope in it though.
Mothers makes me upset, because I had no idea that happened to people (They don't teach us shit in my school)
Tomorrow and Sometimes are both so sad... I cry listening to them
    So Cruel is sad too.

One thing U2 did for me me was show me how emotionally powerful songs can be.

Why sad? Is there a hidden meaning I'm not getting?
