What a simple but great idea. Fucking iTunes fucking around again.

Plug in my touch and it shows no music, re-plug it in and it's all there. What a weird program. I do like the fact that it doesn't look like this:

    Instead looking like this:

All the icons it has are Installer, Summerboard, iPod, iTunes, Safari, Settings. That's it.

How the hell did you do that to it?!

You can transfer iTunes purchased songs to your iTunes account. Other than that there's no way that I Know of. It would have to be modded I think.
Not an issue I've had as it's not my sole iPod.

Well that's not mine but an example of it. This is my current theme, called "Blue Tear":

It can be that, or as I enjoy supporting (RED):

Firstly, I went to ziphone.org and downloaded ZiPhone, plugged in my iPod and modded it - more technically known as jailbreaking - which I'm sure you heard of. If anyone remembers Ali's iPod nano, he installed that Rockbox on it which I recommended to him - this is the next stage of it. So it is now 'Jailbroken', and looks way better than the crap it came like out of the box. But I have to stay with 1.1.4 software, otherwise Summerboard and Installer.app won't work too well (and lose my theme).

So much for Apple's "it's impossible to hack it". I think everyone who's seen it (but not aware of the modding) has your same reaction.

Then I installed an app called Summerboard, Installer.app and from there on in have been copying themes and whatever else to it. And best of all, all I have to do is restore it in iTunes to make it look like new - and you can still use iTunes for everything, and get free apps rather than paying $20 for apps I don't want, opposed to paying nothing for apps developers give away for free and open-source. I can also rename 'iPod' to something else - like Mofo. I can also hide any app I like, and I don't have Music and Videos as icons, only iPod - Videos sits behind it as a dock option.

I couldn't find a way around re-transferring the songs as it doesn't appear as a removable storage device, so I couldn't drag off like I did on the classic (which I actually gave away to my younger sister), so I just re-ripped every CD in Foobar at 192Kbps. I'm using it as my sole iPod because I paid top dollar and I want to get the best use out of it.

I'm sure Steve Jobs doesn't mind modding - it looks cool. I couldn't do much with the classic - it was fully locked down, and so far nobody has bypassed it yet.
  3. I looked at the ZiPhone site and have the Mac version. What do I do now to get the cool wallpaper etc?

Is it completely safe? My wife would kill me if I fucked upmy iTouch!
  4. Speaking of Ali - anyone heard from him?
  5. looks like acalculator I used to have at school.......

  6. A lot cheaper with a good amount of options. And besided that....I'm not keen on iPods at all. It's just a good option for non-iPod fellas like me.
  7. It should be safe - but again, there are always risks - there are no guarantees, so if you're worried do not do it. Otherwise...

Once you've got ZiPhone, make sure you use 1.1.4 firmware - that's all I've tested it with, not sure whether it's different to PC, but it shouldn't be. Plug in your touch, and in the ZiPhone select Jailbreak.

Let ZiPhone do it's thing (bringing up a whole load of Unix text) - when it's done, you should have an option for a Blog and an Installer. Go through Installer and find Summerboard - install that, then back in installer, choose the menu - Summerboard Themes and go nuts. Hopefully it works.

See this Google Search, best I could do.
