1. Seems it was worth it James
  2. Something else came to my mind that we haven't mentioned yet: Tech21 Double Drive - here's a pic:

This is an analog distortion effect unit that can be used with the clean channel of any guitar amp, best in a neutral setting. It's a cascading effect that simulates Class A and / or Class AB power amp saturation. So it can turn every neutral amp channel into an AC30 if necessary. The unit itself has three channels, all custom programmable. Switch between them with a foot stomp. Great reviews. Not a very cheap unit, but cheaper than an AC30. Tech21 is the producer of the famous SansAmp analog modeling unit.

    Ain't nothing but a VOX-thang, baby...
Gonna give Edge tone thats cra-zay."

    Why Vox?
    The Edge
    Peter Buck (R.E.M.)
    Brian May (Queen)
    Ed O'Brien (Radiohead)
    Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead)...

All great guitar players with great tone. All that use Vox amps.

That said, avoid the Valvetronix line. Those are shite. BUT...A vintage AC 30TB is a great choice. The aforementioned AC30CC2X is also "The Goods" (tm)

Damn strat! You listen to Dre too? Man I love the old dre. Deep Cover, Deez Nuts, forgot about dre, all that man. Good to know there's another U2 fan that doesn't mind a little oldschool rap.

  4. Sorry for double post.

  5. I don't know about you guys but this is turning into another Guitar Q and A haha. This christmas I'm asking for the Vox Tonelab LE. Great amp modeller, effects processor, and a great all around unit for about 400 bucks. I hope Santa has those in his bag when he flies over my town this year, if not, I'll buy it myself

Wow, thanks alot Alex, opened my mind a bit more! out of interest, what guitar do you have?

  7. I've got a few right now, all more or less in the medium price range:

A Strat I assembled from a MIM deluxe ash body, Highway1 rosewood neck, Wilkinson tremolo and a SD Little 59.
A MIM Nashville Tele with an SD Quarter Pounder
A Squier Deluxe HH Tele with Gibson USA 490R/498T Pickups
A chinese Gretsch copy with GFS Pickups
A chinese Jumbo acoustic with active preamp
A Career RIK400 bass (Rickenbacker copy)

Guitars keep coming and going. There must be ten more I once had that I sold after some time.

  8. Dave Grohl has been know to use AC-30s as well to the best of my knowledge.
  9. I'd suggest the Ac50. I took delivery of one about a month ago, and I have been blown away. Actually cheaper than the AC30 (though not exactly cheap at $999). Beautiful sparkling clean channel, and the overdrive channel is better than any pedal or amp I've ever experienced (I've got a Fender and a Marshall, and a Tube Screamer and Boss SD-1 for pedals). VERY HEAVY AMP, you'll get a work out moving this thing around .

If you go for an AC50 go through North Coast Music--excellent service, you pay no shipping (S&H charge from Musician's Friend or Guitar Center is ~$70). Ultimately I picked the AC50 because it was less expensive and I like having the control panel on the front of the amplifier as opposed to the top.

    Happy hunting!
  10. Thanks for the advice, ill check that out too!
My main problem is finance, i need (i say need, i mean want haha) a bigger amp to what i have, and one with quality. ideally id spend alot of money for a some really good equipment, i dont want to spend a lttle less just because i cant affird it and end up with a lesser sound. i might just have to save up for years!x
