I'm convinced that POP is as awesome as it is, because of the fact taht they didn't have time to polish and rework and polish again. In other words: don't fiddle to much with the songs, know when to stop.
  2. It's been said that things always change in the 11th hour, with U2. And that is true.

Bono went in and recut the vocal to "A Sort Of Homecoming", literally as the tapes were to go to mastering. Yet, they put the tapes up, he nailed it, improved upon it, and the album was better for it.

Achtung Baby is another example. Everyone from band, crew to producers have said that if that album came out, even a week earlier, it'd have been a different animal. Many mixes and ideas changed in the 11th hour.

I understand REMY and agree that I hope that they don't OVER think it or OVER produce it. I do think that any 'problems' with HTDAAB were over-cooking some bits.

    Example?
The guitars are music are much more razor sharp on "Native Son" than they are on "Vertigo". I'm not saying "Vertigo" is bad or week, I'm saying the guitars on "Native Son" are sharper, and in my view better. It goes back to what they said in interviews, that they were listening to their early influences and recapturing that spirit.

That said, the Jacknife Lee 7" mix of Vertigo, is ALSO better (rawer, sharper, better mix) than the album version (Has a lyric difference or two also).

So time used wisely and with inspiration = The Joshua Tree/Achtung Baby goodness. Let's hope it is in that vein that they are travelling and not watering anything down for 'radio'.

    exactly!
thank you for this.... very well put!
  4. 50/60 songs
    I want them all lol...

Probably half of those are weak...
  5. I must say that I am getting a little bored with the 'let's re-release all the old albums and cash in before our new LP comes out' CD's!!!
Oasis are around with a superb new tune, new LP due and a World Tour shceduled, what a shock, U2 put back the release of the new CD until their tour finishes.....Um, conspiracy?
  6. About the anger on HTDAAB...they left it out and made them B-Sides..: Native Son, Xanax and Wine, Are You Gonna Wait Forever. These songs have anger in them.

One thing in this all is certain though: Bono is saying a lot of things, even too much for himself to udnerstand, I think.

aww come on you gotta be kidding. U2 worrying about what Oasis) are up to? Not a chance

  8. Agree with you...the new material from Oasis is decent, strong but nothing special to me. Must say I'm not that much of a fan though.
  9. U2 isn't worrying about any band in the world, whatever will be released.

a good piece....good video of Bono and Ron Wood talking and Bono actually states something about how bands are now taking years to make records, and how the Joshua Tree took 3 or 4 months, which Bono said was too long and that he doesn't want to spend that much time in a studio.....haha
  11. Oasis have only two good songs wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger.

The only real competition this year was from Coldplay.
