1. For me, a big factor is that there's nothing particularly memorable that I really take from it (other than Fun Lovin' Criminals acting like wankers during Edge's karaoke) which kinda rings out to me as it being a fairly average gig in my view - if I'm struggling to remember parts of it, perhaps there's nothing truly memorable from an observer's point of view. Perhaps I would have seen things differently had I been at the gig proper, but coming from a bootleg point of view, it doesn't strike me as beyond the norm. I'll give it one more listen before posting my review.

thats pretty much it. It's a gig. No more or no less in my eyes

Fair enough point. I guess that sort of reflects the sentiments in my performance review. I think I'll hang on to it for a while though. Sound was good and the audience were absolute stars IMO.

I could add and recording of audience ruins it....

    Congrats with your wife, Dan
  8. Mine's coming too tomorrow. Busy days here...weddings, birthday party, football.... Enough spare time tomorrow. With that, I'm off!
  9. Performance :

Spirited but stale and more than a little bland. It was the end of the first leg but things still didn't seem right with the whole Popmart setup. Things started well with Mofo but i'm at my wits end trying to remember anything else from the entire show Last Night On Earth was terrible. The first minute or so was just soo flat. There wasn't anything especially bad about the performance but the whole show felt like the band were just keeping their head above the water. Very little in the way of crowd interaction from Bono. Even Streets sounded flat. Miami was decent. MLK was nice due to it's rareness but it didn't sound great at all. Uninspiring overall with no real high points.

    2/5

    Sound :

A very very good sounding gig ruined by it's low bitrate. I'll be watching intently for the lossless of this if it pops up and I guarantee there'l be a massive improvement. Drums were a little muddy and the crowd featured nicely throughout. 4/5 but it could be a 4.5 with a fresh conversion.

    Audience :

Boston crowds are typically excellent at U2 gigs and those in attendance during this gig certainly were energetic. Kinda didn't know their way around the POP songs but enjoyed the oldies.

    3.5/5

Good sounding Popmart gig that should tick many of your boxes. I need more to keep me interested though and this gig just didn't deliver.
  10. PopMart 1997-07-02 Foxboro

    Performance:

Where to start? I thought this was an ok gig. U2 has three era's during this tour, and very few shows from the first leg make the grade. I liked the Last Night On Earth cartoon bit, brought me back to my childhood with the cartoon lookalikes. UTEOTW has a great guitar intro, which should've been used for the tour. Accidental, but awesome. The band seemed very tired of playing any material that night, which shocked me. Discotheque and the encore crew save this one. HMTMKMKM is another star here. The thing that really pissed me off was how lazy Bono was sounding that night. And this goes for most of the PopMart show too. I think this is the period where he showed off his ego. Of course, the exceptions to this would be the PopMart greats. The song Rain was new to me, and I liked it.

    3/5

    Sound + Audience

I listened to this, and the 128 (i think) kbps killed it. Gerard is right regarding the lossless. Other than that, it was great. Awesome sound, great crowd, couldnt ask for anything better (sorry Soundboards, but your audiences seem unusually quiet ). And Gerard, thank you for the compliment regarding my hometown!

    4.5/5

    Overall

Parts of it kept me interested. UTEOTW through AIWIY was the best part IMO. The band seemed very tired, Bono a tad lazy, and me - left a little sleepy.

4/5 Overall - sound was good, band not so much, audience awesome.....for PopMart enthuists and huge U2 fans only.
