1. So I will listen to the Beach Clips for fun...why take them serious if they aren't the final product? I'm a Simon + Garfunkel fan so I'll let ya guys know. As for the Q mag...I think I'll run over to a local store or something.

Here are some 150 BPM samples:

And it seems all the naysayers who thought the Beach Clips were irrelevant were wrong.
And If Winter is Simon & Garfunkel sounding, then could it possibly be track 5.
Does anyone know if beach clip 5 sounds like a S&G song? (I don't listen to their music)

I also liked how they referred to the beach clips and the rivalry between successor bands such as the Killers and Coldplay, it makes them seem more relevant somewhat.

And I hope the Spanish leak is wrong, I don't want the album on Itunes two weeks before I can get my hands on the physical copy. As I will either have to make two purchases or maddeningly wait while everyone else discusses the album.

Buying and listening to an album is an experience in itself, going to the store, looking at the packaging, reading the dust jacket. Rather than simply clicking a few buttons on your PC, its disappointing that they should sanction a digital release earlier with 5 extra songs.

And can someone hurry up and post scans of the album?

you crack me up. can you post without mentioning the beach clips?!
  3. Originally posted by vanquish:Lol, I was wondering for some time, by what you meant by demanding.

Sorry, I meant scans of the mag. Was a Freudian slip, I wouldn't mind if someone posted scans of the album though

But the album will be floating around everywhere if they release it on Itunes two weeks in advance. Thank God that turned out fake, hope it doesn't give them any ideas though.

And what of beach clip 5? any S&G fans here?

No worries mate, I'm a pedantic bastard at times I'm a casual S&G fan, but yeah I've already said my piece about the beach clips (wasn't aware there was a fifth lol but no matter), but I'd love to see how scans of an album would turn out

And yeah, random shit re. the U2miracle.com debacle, but thanks Nicole for the early headsup you mentioned after Johnny posted it originally, I don't spend a lot of time on Interference but they usually know which way the wind is blowing

150 BPM doesn't necessarily say a lot about the track other than, well, the beats per minute. What about the actual time signature lol? It could be 2/2, 3/4. 4/4, 5/6, god knows!
  4. Dan!!
thanks a lot for the insight of the Q article!!
    thanks a lot really!!

and to all... sorry I fell for the www.u2miracle.com joke... very very stupid of them... the idea of april's fool jokes is something that is ridiculous, and still you believe it because it sounds real, that sounded completely credible, it had nothing to do with ridiculous...
    A.H.
    sorry...
  5. Johnny no worries, don't beat yourself up about it - their fault, not yours

Anyway, back on topic now we've cleared that crap up

  6. Well I can, but this is the album discussion topic, and i think discussing the beach clips which are actual tracks from the album sessions, are more useful than discussing wild conjecture and a sentence long song description from Q, or statements by the band/prouducers that a particular song is the best ever.

The Beach Clips have no spin or hype applied to them, and allow us to quantify the descriptions/statements made by the band and the press on the new album.

But again I think this boils down to the fact that some people don't want to listen to the clips (fearing they might spoil things, which they don't) and subsequently don't want (and don't want others) to discuss something they haven't listened to.

Well, you can't say they don't spoil it because you don't know what the finished article sounds like. I hear what you say about the clips BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY it's as much conjecture as anything else doing the rounds because we have nothing solid to go by. Articles from Q Magazine hold as much stock as anything the beach clips tell because we don't have the actual album to listen to. Maybe in 3 months' time or so, you could telling us how over-cautious etc. we were by not listening to the clips, on the other hand we could sit here in 3 months time going nur nur they sound nothing alike. I personally hold more stock with stuff the band and those around them have said, and when you consider that I don't really pay much heed when people say "it's the best we've ever done", that should tell you enough

The key issue for me is that the clips are NOT the album. Nothing more, nothing less. The album doesn't exist yet, as we know it, hence we speculate, because you can only speculate on that which is as yet unknown lol.

While I don't want to listen to the beach clips until I've heard the official album, I'm all for others discussing them here. Discuss away. (besides, much better discussion in that than some of the other useless crap we've discussed while waiting for the new material! ) I just can't/won't be a part of the discussion if it pertains to the beach clips.

Same here. I want it to be surprise!
  10. The way I see it, the beach clips are about as indicative as the random vids they keep posting on U2.com - not very. We don't know what we're listening to, and certainly can't know for sure. The only attractions for me with the videos are that a) we're watching something, b) it's more than just static, people going shhh and distant indistinct music and c) as a guitar nut, I'm interested to see what the guys are using instruments wise, effects etc. If it wasn't for those reasons, I'd probably not bother with the vids either lol. The a capella thing Edge, Brian and Danny were singing the other week was a bit of a bonus too!

  11. Lol, indeed it was doucious

The clips are more than static, and waves and people chatting in Dutch,
are we listening to the same ones? (reuploaded, previous link was dead) http://rapidshare.com/files/177737907/Bens_Beach_clips_2008_eqd.zip

While it is hard to make out lyrics especially in the verses (though some have managed to), they give you a very good idea of the structure and overall sound of the song. And in Beach Clip 1 (Unknown Caller) you can clearly hear most of the Edge's solo at the end, and you can make out most of Breathe, certainly enough to know whether it's their best song ever.

Whereas the U2.com videos are very much teasers, the Clips offer much more information. Though of course they aren't listenable songs, ie I don't have them on my playlist.

As for concerns that they spoil the album, the quality is nowhere near as good as the finished product, so I doubt they will detract from anyones enjoyment of the final songs.

It also helps if you listen to them lying down in the dark, helps you tune out the other noises.
Try it if you don't believe me.
