1st single pretty similar to Vertigo
Musically in the same line as the last 2 albums
    Standout tracks: Breathe, Stand Up
Edge playing the same riffs as 4 years ago.
    12 tracks

    ...

That review certainly isn't hyping the album is it?! I wouldn't worry too much about it, partly depends if this person is a U2 fan or not - everyone's opinion differs. I have friends that will listen to the new album and say it's shit, but they just don't like U2. I do think people may be disappointed if they expect another Achtung Baby.

I think it's silly to expect another AB.....even Larry said in Q that it is a different kind of experimentation....he said if you're thinking Zooropa or Passengers, it's not it. I'm sure it will be different, but Achtung Baby is Achtung Baby....we can have this discussion for real though when it's finally out...having said that I do think it will be a departure like they've said

  3. Just because my taste seems to be so much different from Larry's. I mean, he hates Pop, Passengers, Zooropa while I think it's some of their best work. So I'm a little worried about what he would call their best...

I don't agree your taste is bad in the least. Slug, United Colours, Miami, One Minute Warning, Zooropa...totally out there and god damned brilliant and wonderful. It seems he likes straighforward stuff.

With Pop, isn't it the whole band who seem to have an obvious distaste for it? Some of U2's best work of the last 30 years is there.

We'll see in a few weeks exactly what is "their best". To come from something entirely different and out-there, to something so basic and bland was not a smart move.
  5. I think some people are mixing up the whole achtung baby thing.
it's not about whether it sounds like achtung baby, but whether it's like the jump from jt to ab. that's a difference.

Did you hear birds at the beginning of any All That You Can't Leave Behind / How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb? Eno is back to his roots (and U2 are back to something...)

Unknown Caller is a great pointer - birdsong recorded live and a phone sending random instructions?

Thats good start I say at least

  9. Breathe seems to be one of those songs that's been talked about for ages now. I'm interested to know whether numbers are still significant to the album.

So Cedars of Lebanon is going to be the last song?

Im a bit confused with this whole track list to be honest lol
Its not been confirmed yet right?
Then someone throwed in another rumoured song "Tripoli" but someone said that might been scrapped

It hasn't been confirmed, but I know it was written a bit before December or very early December. My timeline thread proves this:

December 5, 2008: Will.i.am tells Billboard he recently worked with U2 in London.

Presumably for Crazy Tonight. It was Bono speaking about Tripoli.
