1. Because I listen through hundreds of bootlegs constantly, to see what songs are worth saving, and I was actually surprised by how often he does make some kind of lyrical error. They're usually nothing major but they tend to ruin one's impression of a performance. The most errors are found in the Zoo-tv and Boy-The Unforgettable fire eras. More recent shows feature less errors, in my experience.

The reason I didn't give any more examples is that I rarely ever know the show in question (since i don't save those versions in which Bono does sing wrong in some way). However, here are a few more examples:

1992-09-09, Pontiac, Michigan, Bullet the blue sky, first verse (mix-up)
Unknown war tour show - new year's day, ----------"--------------------
Two different unknown october tour, I threw a brick through a window (forgets the lyrics after the part "no one is blinder")
Washington 1992-08-16, replaces "secret" in the second verse with "light-bulb" which isn't supposed to be until later
Unknown vertigo show, sings "all you americans" to a european crowd
Two different unknown war show, forgets the lyrics for the snippet "Let's twist again" at the end of the performance of "Two hearts beat as one".

    great
  3. He often replaces the lyrics in Zoo Station and The Fly
  4. There's one little mistake during Pride in Wellington 1984
He sings "Free at last, they took your Pride, they could not take your Pride"
Kinda funny lol, maybe that was what the thread starter meant

Yeah, it was. Good thing he realized it in time not to say life the second time instead.
  6. he stuffs up desire live from mexico city 1997, its very funny, he recovers by singing 'lalalalala bumba', and also One from Irving Plaza NYC 5th Dec 2000.
  7. He makes a lot of slip ups and changes.

I was listening to Exit live from Paris, a truly great performance of the song.
However at the end, when he sings Gloria, the first few Gloria's he spells out as 'G-L-O-R-A' which makes him seem dyslexic, a slight letdown to the otherwise fantastic performance.

He often tried to combine I and A into one letter. Thats what you hear in the Paris performance. Sometimes though he got the rest of the letters mixed up to.

    It's the same on R&H. he goes G L O R IA.
  10. I hope you all know Bono sometimes does change his lyrics a bit on purpose...
Otherwise it would be too boring to sing the same thing over and over again
    (Source : 1000x Bono)

Though he does screw up things sometimes ofcourse, everyone does...

Actually the original sentence in Pride IS just screwed up
    "Early morning, april 4"
But Martin Luther King died in the afternoon
  11. Yeah from the Fly versions I've heard from Zoo Tv he regularly mixes up the same lyrics e.g.

    'man will rise
    and man will crawl'

Part of what makes them great live though is that they change things around a lot. I've never heard of him completely forgetting his lines and there haven't been too many instances where they've completely screwed things up (a la PopMart Vegas) so far as I know
  12. I have no idea why people care so much about Bono "slipping up" or changing lyrics. Did we accuse Edge of mucking up Running To Stand Still on the ZooTV tour or Elevation on the Vertigo tour because they didn't sound exactly like the studio version? Songs evolve over time....both musically and lyrically. Give Bono a break if he says "your love is a lightbulb, it just goes over my head." That lyric works just as well as what is on the album.
