They are pretty oddball titles and lyrics attached to them. They are all good songs IMO but how would you have reacted if you just saw the song titles before the album's release?

i agree with u 100% about party girl etc, but from what ive heard of the song from an early recording its not very good, and i dunt like it one bit, and those lyrics contribute to that. (i hope i dunt get hung out to dry for reffering to the clips.)
All i hope for is that it has been changed.

Well said, firstly the lyric would suit a band like the Killers better, secondly the way he sings it doesn't help. You can picture the reaction from youth already
  3. I agree about the "Sexy Boots" line. Get On Your Boots is great musically, but those are dumb lyrics, precisely because they are written by the guy who wrote Sunday Bloody Sunday and Pride (In The Name of Love) in his early twenties, hangs out with the likes of Salmon Rushdie and Tony Blair, and is a major anti-poverty activist. If you think of other rock lyricists who are very politically active, like Billy Bragg or Bruce Cockburn, they write consistently better lyrics than Bono. C'mon Bono, Get On Your Boots, Stand Up, and let's hear another Sunday Bloody Sunday. That's what I want. I want the long-awaited follow-up to War. Even if it sells 9 million copies rather than 10.
  4. All of this judgement on songs that have not been released or heard yet

Beach clips don't mean anything. Lyrics change throughout the recording and mixing process. All the way down to "A Sort of Homecoming" having lyric and vocal melody changed the day the album went for mastering.
  5. I don't understand all the fuss about that line...it's not my favourite either, but it was early december when RS had the interview. It might have been changed and totally rewritten since then...who knows?

In Xanax and Wine/Fast Cars, Bono sings: 'I watch CCTV, pornography, CNBC..' Does that make it a bad song? Look at the context of the song, not just one sentence.

+1. Elevation has pretty poor lyrics too, but it's a great gig opener.

  7. It has perfect lyrics, if you know what song is all about. An that is - sex.

  8. Half of the album is mixed and finished for months. So some tracks are complete others aren't. The boots song is one of these finished tracks I'd guess.
And while I agree that a song name or one line of the lyrics tells you not much about the song, the line in question is the chorus line, so I think it's more "significant" than the opening nonsense of Fast Cars or Vertigo.

Just let your ears be the judge.
  9. We just wait and see (hear). Before making fuss about nothing.

Good point about the line being the chorus. That indeed changes it a bit.

We'll hear in due time though
  11. You guys are all worrying eachother more and more the way your talking about it to eachother more and more. Stop worrying and wait for the actual album to come out/single to come out. Even if it is "Get on your boots, sexy boots..." Big deal? Sure it's not as intense as SBS or Pride. But it will still be good music. People change, Bono might not be focusing on writing as much music about war and polotics and world issues these days, even if he's more caught up in it then ever. Look at their situation when War came out, they needed a hard-hitting album that people would take things away from. They knew if they didn't come up with something spectacular they'd be done for. Same goes with UF, JT. RnH wasn't a critically acclaimed album, but the fans stll loved it. And as for serious lyrics, look at AB and Zooropa. A lot of people on this forum (including me) hold those two albums in their "U2 top 5 albums list". They're lyrics aren't serious at all. Same with Pop, I mean c'mon, the playboy mansion? Mofo? Those songs are still great. Bottom line is, everyone needs to stop worrying, and relax a bit.

I have to agree with the bulk of your post and think that crazy-fan-paranoia is sweeping the boards at present.

However, I've highlighted the bit about serious lyrics to hugely disagree with you. AB contains some of the most serious and dark lyrics. Ditto Zooropa. And Mofo is just dark/serious all over. As are Gone, If God..., Velvet Dress, Wake Up Dead Man and Last Night...

    Ah well, back OT.....

Nice tantalising news about the single. I'm expecting something on Radio 1 any day soon. They usually have the first exclusive play.
