1. ^^ same here actually. Nighttime, something to drink, my couch, the stereo in front...bliss!
I'll prolly lie on the couch and read the lyrics when the songs are played. Next round then without the booklet and headphones.

But well, I know I will not be able to control myseld once there's a leak
  2. I have tried to listen intensly in the dark, but I always fall asleep, even with Amnesiac and Loveless.
I will listen to my HQ download, so no waiting to get the album.
When my amazon package comes in I will likely watch the Anton Corbijn Movie, since it is too hard to dl. An then I will check out the booklet and lyrics while listening to an apple lossless rip of my cd.

lol...falling asleep during Amnesiac isn't that hard
  4. The first U2 album that I was able to go out and buy properly myself - with my own money and all - was Rattle & Hum (12 at the time); and I'll always remember slapping down my money and getting a cassette version, then rushing home to put the tape into my player and then literally devouring the detail of the cover; and, with Rattle & Hum, it was a particularly long cover with loads of detail of the JT tour etc. I loved the inside picture of the band playing live with Larry looking rock-god-like up on his drum riser as well.

Anyway, I'll always remember the sheen of the paper, and the smell of the newness - you simply can't buy that experience and this is why I'll definitely be queueing up on Grafton Street for the midnight release - to get the rush of actually going out and buying the record and having it physically in your hands. I love iTunes and being able to find new music at the touch of a button etc; but for a band like U2, you've just got to stick with tradition, eh?

My plan at the moment is to drive to Dublin the night of the release, queue up, buy the cd & vinyl versions (have box set on order from Amazon), then drive home again (should take just over an hour or so), and simply blast the album out as loud as possible from the car speakers. Then, when I get home I'll upload to my iPod and go to bed listening to it in the dark until I fall asleep - can't wait!!
  5. when I listened HTDAAB for the first time it was clear to me that this is one of the greatest...I actually dont know what to expect from NLOTH....when Im totally honest I have to say that Im sceard a littlebit....all the thigs that Bono is tired of himself is frightening me.
but I hope everything will be Ok and Im just too suspicious
  6. Well, with GOYB on the table I'm looking forward to hear the rest. If the rest is in the same mood as GOYB, it's not the departure they said it would be..so I have faith.
  7. With NLOTH, i'll probably listen to the songs that sound the most interesting first. Maybe with some skipping in the song to find some cool parts/solos/vocals. I'll do that with all the songs. Then ill listen to each song in full, but prolly in a different order.

When i'm done with that i'll listen to the whole album front to back, when i'm lying in bed with my headphones on until I fall asleep (then after a while i'm half dreaming/sleeping and listening to the songs which will be awesome)
  8. How to respond?

Give it time. Open the album (in this case it will be the box set) and have a listen, take my time, and give it a chance. I know, as I've found in the past, that U2 albums can be 'growers' and they are worth the wait for the beauty to emerge.

There is no need to rush to judgement. Is anyone on a time table to meet to turn in an album review? I'd vernture to say, in most cases, no.

Some have complained that this new album (and some that the last two) have had obvious singles. It isn't like that didn't happen before. Pride, in example.

Pride was a song that many loved at first listen. But most of the rest of The Unforgettable Fire was a bit more challenging but an album that revealed it's true beauty, song-craft and grew with each listen.

While The Fly wasn't an 'immediate' hit to some on first listen, the album was very much like The Unforgettable Fire, in that it revealed a treasure of greatness, insight and beauty over repeated listening.

In that, one should give that consideration with the new album - whether you like "GOYB" or not. A bit of time and patience will most likely show you what many U2 albums have shown me - and that is quite simply the how amazing U2 can be.

Bono has been saying he is "tired of Bono and he IS Bono" for over 10 years. One should not take that too much to heart or be worried.

    You're on fire this evening
  11. 'It starts with a little seed, but just watch and it will grow into the mightiest of trees.'

I'd prefer a slow burner that becomes a classic that something with glim and glam but little substance.
  12. Usually I play the first couple of seconds of each track so that I am not trampling over tracks to get to the next one.
