    totally second that. especially that line, it makes me cringe whenever I hear it and I skip the song immediately. plus, like harry said, it just doesn't grab me on a musical level to make up for the lyrics

    ah man, i find that to be a gorgeous line, I agree it flirts with being cheesy, but it works. I find it to be a beautiful and forgive the term, graceful, song. Lots of Eno in it and I love it. Nice soothing end to a soothing album

    Imo, this is the best album U2 have ever made. It is so uplifiting and full of soul. Whenever I am in a bad mood, I put on this record, and by the last notes of Grace, I am all smiles. No other u2 album moves my emotions like ATYCLB does. Musically, it is a wonderful combination of U2 of the 80s, U2 of the 90s, plus an added dose of raw, personal emotion never before heard on a U2 record.

    My advice to those that think ATYCLB is lame and a step back for U2:
    Next time you are in a bad mood, go home, relax, lay on the couch, close your eyes and pop this record in. I guarantee when you are finished, your mind will be at ease and you will be in a better mood. Music is supposed to move us and this album does that like no other imo.

    Imo, this is the best pure rock and roll record that U2 have ever made. HTDAAB is straight forward 21st century rock and roll and its finest. The Who's next of its generation. It rocks from beginning to end. Who cares that there are very few bleeps and whistes in there. Who cares if Bono's lyrics aren't as clever as they normally are. They are not what this record is about. It is about the power of rock and roll, pure and simple.

    My advice to those that think HTDAAB is lame and a step back for U2:
    This is very simple actually. Do what Bono says at the beginning. Turn the volume up as loud as it can go and rock the fuck out. Stop trying to find some hidden meaning or some bleep that you didn't hear the first 5 listens. I am so glad U2 took the time to made a record like this for their catelogue, because it is unlike anything they have ever done or ever will do.

    I am not trying to be a dick or anything, so please no one take offense to this post. All I am saying is that I love the last 2 records as much as I love anything U2 have ever done and I consider myself the type of fan that knows all of the material backwords and forwards. I welcome the new style that NLOTH will bring, but I will never forget the last 2 masterpieces that preceeded it. These 2 albums are both brilliant and I feel sorry for the fans that were not able to connect with them as I have been able to.

    Although I will say that Achtung Baby! is the best era and album by U2 and of all time, I totally agree with you that ATYCLB and HTDAAB deserve more credit then they get. Where JT had the feel of birth and desolation and AB! the feel of chaos and confusion, ATYCLB is the most heartwarming U2 album by far. A beautiful album with Kite, one of the best u2 songs ever, and Grace...apparently a song that only I appreciate on this site. (The lyrics about it being a girl and a thought that changed the world is a great one I think).

    HTDAAB didn't add up to more than the sum of its part but it was still a great collection of songs. Miracle Drug, COBL and Man and a Woman are gorgeous songs and Yahweh seems to light up the night when played out on acoustic. I can understand people who think their peak has come and gone but I don't remotely agree.

    Bono's voice is different now as he's aged and there's a strong emotion in its wavering, a subtlety that's often gone unnoticed. He doesn't have the screech as he used to and his beautiful falsetto may be used up but they suited better the old era's. I like his voice now and I think its a depressing thought to view your favorite band, the heart of hearts of your musical tastes, as misled or going in a downward spiral. I wouldn't change anything about U2's history as far as their album's and tours go and I love the collection as much as a whole as I do individually.

    Which also helps stoke fuel to the fire for this next album. Can't wait. I hear you achtungbaby1366, you're not alone!

  11. Pretty interesting discussion here. Myself I think All That You Can't Leave Behind is one of their best, and How To Dismantle An Atomic Best is one of their 'worst'. ATYCLB is so filled with love and soul, I love it from the first to the last second. Bono said in The Rolling Stone interview four years ago that this album ór HTDAAB is maybe even better than Achtung Baby or The Joshua Tree at some points, and I completely agree. At some points All That You Can't Leave Behind is better. Matter of taste? Yes. Songs like Peace On Earth, Walk On, Beautiful Day, Grace The Ground Beneath Her Feet, and not to forget Kite, When I Look At The World, Stuck In A Moment, these songs are coming out of my speakers as a musical definition of love. Elevation (a killer live on Elevation, a filler on Vertigo), New York are very very good rock songs. Bono said during the same interview as mentioned before that they wanted to make an 'uncool' album. Well you can say it's uncool because of the subjects (and maybe the sound), but it's uncool in a very positive way.

    HTDAAB is actually pretty dissapointing if you have listened to ATYCLB. It's overproduced and that's why most of the songs has lost their power and shine. It still does have some great bits like Vertigo, City Of Blinding Lights, Crumbs From Your Table, Yahweh and Original Of The Species. But songs like All Because Of You, Miracle Drug (except for the solo), A Man And A Woman are very dissapointing and annoying. Their still good if you listen to the music produced these days but it's low on the U2-rankings. And ATYCLB is uncool in a positive way, with HTDAAB I felt U2 was trying to be cool, and as result of that they were cool in a not very positive way. The Vertigo Tour was pretty good but I think it was NOT better than Elevation.

    Just as much ripping as there is praising going on in this thread. I think this has been a good thread because half of you agree with me and half of you think I am an idiot. Usually when you get a equal amount of people on each side it makes for a good debate.
