I understand people are being sentimental, but come on.

Zooropa while not perfect, was a great experimental album that produced some truly innovative, standout songs
eg. Stay, Lemon, Zooropa, The Wanderer, Numb.

Boy was a debut album made by a bunch of 18 year olds with an inexperienced producer, Zooropa was made by a band at their prime with one of the all time producing greats.

Putting Boy in front of Zooropa doesn't add up to me.

It's the songs on Boy, whilst its a very raw album and the band are very raw, some of those songs stand up even today, I Will Follow, Out Of Control etc etc, they even sound so fresh today when played live.

With Zooropa, it's very experimental, and thats fine, but the songs lack somewhat, plus the Wanderer isn't even U2.....Stay is great, so is Zooropa, but Lemon & Numb and the rest of the record just fails to stand up, they sound like Achtung Baby outcasts that perhaps should have been b-sides, but, thats just my opinion.

Wow. I thought I'd seen everything, but this adds a new dimension.

No offence intended. You're entitled to your own opinion, of course - and I don't intend trying to change it or persuade you into anything. I'm just puzzled because I don't get it.

    Peace and Love

  7. Maybe it's interesting to see/discuss how you can rate the albums from different views of opinions.

    Personal taste
Status were U2 were at that moment of the recording (circumstances)
Define an U2 'standard' and then rate every U2 album from the point of this standard

    Could be a great discussion.

We can do this very detailed: see which kind of songs there are on the album and compare them with other albums.

Define a U2 standard, I would say Between 1987 and 1993, not sure how you rate over albums around that though, i'm pretty sure it was their most creative era, Album wise and Recording, I don;t think anything they've done since then has really match that.

There's the problem: you can't set a standard. You think it's their most creative period, and most other people probably think so too. But others might disagree, which causes the standard to not be a standard for those people. It all comes down to personal taste, there's no other way of rating these albums.

Yeah, I agree with that, it was really just a suggestion to the idea of finding a bench mark
