1. Well, actually it was a b-side, however in The Netherlands Everlasting Love became a hit on itself, reached nr. 13 position in the Top 40, so it can be considered a single.

And it was never played live.

okia doke. It was a hit in one country. Electrical Storm got the full release though, proper video, cd/dvd combies etc
  3. Part 2

U2's second album was October, released in 1981. It was released to poorer reviews than Boy in 1980, and for some reason not a lot of people like it a lot.

A video for Gloria was directed by Meiert Avis and shot at the Canal Basin in Dublin.

Bono and Edge left U2 because of spiritual conflicts and U2 broke up for a short time. It was a Christian group they joined in Dublin called 'The Shalom Fellowship'. Larry Mullen Jr was also part of this group.

A briefcase, returned to the band only in 2004, was stolen backstage from a show with lyrics for several songs on October.

U2 released War in 1983, which included Sunday Bloody Sunday, and was the first to feature photography by Anton Corbijn, who is the band's principal photographer. New Year's Day, the first single from War was the band's first #1 single outside of the UK and Ireland.

U2 recorded Under A Blood Red Sky home video and live album on the War Tour. Their record deal with Island Records was almost at the end, and in 1984 they signed a further agreement; with a negotiation of the return of their copyrights such as owning the rights to their own songs, amongst other royalties.

Next...1984 to 1986, then 1987 to 1989. We should create a whole dedicated topic to this.

  4. I've always wondered why this site has nothing like the history of the band and band members' biographies in its content.
  5. Number of songs never played live on each album:
Boy (0) - All were played live
October (2) - Stranger In A Strange Land and Is That All
War (3) - Drowning Man (only as a snippet), The Refugee and Red Light
TUF (3) - Promenade, 4th July and Elvis Presly And America
JT (1) - Red Hill Mining Town
    R&H (1) - Heartland
    AB (1) - Acrobat
Zooropa (1) - Some Days Are Better Than Others
Pop (1) - Playboy Mansion (only ever snippeted)
ATYCLB (3) - Peace On Earth (only snippeted), WILATW (only ever snippeted) and Grace
HTDAAB (2) - One Step Closer and A Man And A Woman
Electrical Storm was only ever rehearsed but never played live
  6. 1st rule on a U2 discussion board: Go into whatever topic you like - no matter what it's about - and leave a totally unrelated post on how Coldplay are just a cheap U2-knockoff
  7. B-sides U2 played live:
Party Girl, Boy/Girl, Touch, Things To Make And Do, Pete The Chop (if it counts in the early form), Spanish Eyes, Silver And Gold, Sweetest Thing (if 1998 mix counts), Unchained Melody (as 1 minute snippets), Satellite Of Love, Holy Joe, Two Shots Of Happy, North And South Of The River (?) and Shes A Mystery to me (if live version counts)
  8. The first really big hit was Pride (In The Name Of Love). Before that 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' and 'New Year's Day' ranked high in some countries. Their real breakthrough was with their 1987 album The Joshua Tree.

They were the highlight of Live Aid 1985 where they played Sunday Bloody Sunday and Bad. They were supposed to also play Pride, their big hit, but because leadsinger Bono made a long version out of Bad they didn't had time to play Pride.

And as a sidenote to rule 1: they will love you instantly

    oh wait, U2 related stuff...

    - The 1992-1993 ZooTV tour was the first tour with a B-side and one of the first which had video screens.

    - Where The Streets Have No Name is, without a doubt, their best song ever.
