    Magnificent is right up there for me on this album, just a brilliant track, but when JT came out, Streets had a similar effect, but now, with Streets being 22 years old [can u believe that!!!], it doesn't still have that innitial excitement of a brilliant new song like with Magnificent, and whilst Streets has lasted the test in time, we can't say the same YET for songs from this record, although i get a strong feeling it will.

    Same goes with the other comparesments, whilst NLOTH & MOS are awesome new songs, it's just too hard to say it's equal to or as good as etc, for me, the entire JT album is a classic no doubt, and this new album could very well be as good in time, right now though, it's the most exciting U2 album out, and an extremely enjoyable one at that.

    My only problem, is that the album just can;t get enough plays, i hope i don't over do it....LOL





    When you talk about the test of time, i think it will be equally important to see how these songs go over live. Streets/With or without You and ISHFWILF were live hits from day one. If these songs come across like those did live, I think we may have something here

    At the same time, The Unforgettable Fire is one of my faves, yet didn't produce as many live-friendly tracks, Bad, Homecoming & Pride were about it, was more a studio album than one to take out on the road.

    Ya thats a solid point, but when you think about it is it a coincidence that the two albums that people view as masterpieces came across great live and had the best tour of all time associated with them? To me that adds to the mystique of the album itself

    I think that's a really good point to make. Personally, I do think that NLOTH will, in time, be classed amongst their top 3 albums, behind Baby in 2nd place and the Tree in 1st for me; but I also know that the now generally accepted classification of these latter albums as masterpieces owes a lot to their place in history and the general impact they had on the then pop / rock culture as well. A lot of that I think has to do with how the songs translated into the live setting and thus made the subsequent Joshua Tree and ZOO TV tours the behemoths they were.

    For me, the 2 tours add to the now-perceived greatness of both albums; and obviously that element of NLOTH has yet to come. Of course I'm hoping that the new tour rocks beyond compare; and I've a sneaking feeling that these new songs will, for the most part, translate brilliantly to the live setting, and that the stage set-up will be fairly special as well, so bring it on!!
  10. Magnificent and MOS are as good as ISHFWILF and With or Without You. NLOTH, however, is not as good as Streets. Unknown Caller is better than Bullet The Blue Sky...
  11. I've listened to this album a few times now. It grows everytime. I really love it. The only weakish song is Get On Your Boots, and I don't understand why this was released as a first single. Favs: Magnificent, Unknown Caller, Stand Up Comedy, Fez - Being Born, White As Snow, Cedars of Lebanon. Probably the best full album I've heard since Achtung Baby. Although Elevation and Vertigo are my loves.

    Yet whilst not regarded in that top bracket, the Vertigo tour and songs from HTDAAB just blasted the stage live, that record was made for the live audience, it's an interesting debate.
