    I love U2, I got into them when I first heard Pride on my new NOW 4 album!!! so its coming upto 25 years of supporting one of my favourite bands, the new album sits in about 5th place for me at the moment, behind JT, AB (My Favourite) and HTDAAB and TUF. I have to say whilst killing time in my local asda superstore this morning I browsed through the new Q Magazines review, who have given the album 5 stars out of 5 with a comment saying 'possibly their best album yet'.

    Its all about opinions of course mine is that the album isn't a classic but there are more growers on this album than previous ones. Although i've listened to the album several times now, I'm not getting the feel for this album like I did Achtung Baby, where I just want to blast it out all of the time. Still I won't give up on this band, the world needs them! I agree with gedgar's comments above. Here's hoping i'm overwhelmed by this album in a month aswell!!
  2. Well for some reason since posting last night that i dident get it , after blasting it for 8 hours in work last night the albums just clicked with me .Should have a sticker on the cover saying PLAY THIS LOUD as to me it sounds So good loud on my cans..

    SORRY U2 FOR NOT BELIVEING .X

(And no, I'm not looking ofr sycophantic permanent praise. 2 of our most valued members frequently find fault with U2 but they also contribute a lot of other stuff, and positivity when warranted, to the site).     Agree with you 100% djrlewis - when reading these comments I can't stop thinking of the line from Cedars about keeping your enemies closer!!! I realise that is a controversial statement but some people will never be happy no matter what U2 do.

  6. Here's another diehard fan, who has bought all their albums and UK singles and spent a fortune on promos too, who's probably going to be vilified for expressing his disappointment. I've been listening to the new album on u2.com (yes, I am a paid up member) and I'm struggling to find anything resembling a catchy tune. I was one of the horde of fans who went out and bought Get On Your Boots on its day of release in order to help it shoot into the UK singles chart at number 12, even though I don't like the song and just wanted to hear what the b-side was like. NLOTH2 should have been the a-side IMHO. As I write this I am listening to Achtung Baby, a proper record, and one which I am ashamed to say I did not go out and buy the moment it was released. I won't be rushing out to buy NLOTH, and I certainly won't be spending £40+ on the deluxe edition which contains a DVD and a poster. Do U2 fans really need a poster, I ask myself? How old do they think most of their fans are?

    Sorry but this is just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

    PS Anyone care to bet that Kings of Leon, winners of "Best Girl Group" at the Brits according to Bono, will keep NLOTH off the top spot in the album chart here in the UK? If Achtung Baby couldn't make number one, this one probably doesn't deserve to either.
  7. Right, okay we all have had our first listen to NLOTH, and we are disappointed with it, not all of us, but more are disappointed than others. Articles said that U2 were mixing with trance music and dance music, sort of like POP, however i find there are no elements of that genre in the album, there are some signs of it in Magnificent, but it cuts off. Recently descovering industrial music, mainly Nine Inch Nails, I Could of saw U2 stepping up their different sounds. There was so much hype about this album from Q magazines and others. In Q Bono Claimed that if they made the album right, 2009 was going to be THEIR year. Big statement to pull off, sadly i doubt this will be u2's year. 2009 is full of shitty bands, nonetheless synthesiser music is popular at the moment. I had a full listen to this album several times and like people have said is does certainly grow on you. But c,mon really!... is a great album something you should listen to all the way through 5,6,7 or 8 times! No it isnt. the songs are good, but nothing what it was meant out to be. Being a huge U2 fan i was forcing myself to like it for the fact that it was U2. It does come across as a good album after 5 listens, but at times there is no energy throughout it, i hardly like Vertigo, but even vertigo has more intensity than most of the songs. So i give it 3/5. please reply to this, first time writing on this would like a bit of feed back. Cheers!
  8. I'm a rare poster but want to share my views. I'm a huge fan going back to the UF days. I've listened to the new album several times over the past week. I was initially very disappointed but I have to admit that the album has grown on me. There is a depth and complexity to it that was noticeably lacking on the last two albums. However, I don't think this is a great album or one of their best.

    For me, NLOTH is comprised of two albums. There is the experimental side where you can tell Eno/Lanois pushed the band to work outside their comfort zone (NLOTH, Magnificent, MOS, Unknown Caller, Fez-Being Born, White As Snow and Cedars of Lebanon). I find these songs to be the best thing U2 has done in years. The risks - not as significant as those taken on AB/Zooropa/Pop - I find really interesting and rewarding.

    The other side of the album is the Top 40 / stadium fodder (GOYB, Go Crazy, Stand Up Comedy, Breathe) that U2 could do in their sleep. These songs are OK but offer nothing new or interesting. I get the sense that U2 felt like they needed some "hits" or material the average fan would feel comfortable with.

    As you can tell, I wish they had run more with the experimental vein on this album as it seems to me they were on to something. I understand that they want to sell albums and sell out stadiums but - as a fan for the past 25 years - I know U2 can do so much better than the middle of the road type songs like SUC and Breathe.

    The argument about the 40 quid box set isn't a valid one. U2 thankfully offer multiple formats of the album to choose from. Pick what suits you best and be happy.

    I myself reckon that KOL will keep No Line off the top spot though I don't particularly thing their album is all that great in anyway. A few radio friendly singles and thats about it. It's now 'cool' to like kings of leon and thats where the sales are coming from. Their previous 3 albums all blew me away though.

    No Line isn't about catchy tunes, it's way more complex thatn that. It's U2 having a bit of balls about them againg and that alone is worth 7/10. Add the fact that the album is exactly what I needed from the band then we have one hell of an album. Had this been another cheap attempt and poppy 'catchy' tunes like the last 2 albums then my last post on this site would have been a few weeks ago. This album ticks all the boxes for me, more than just the quality of the songs. If this isn't the case for you then I hope they can deliver next time around.
