The argument about the 40 quid box set isn't a valid one. U2 thankfully offer multiple formats of the album to choose from. Pick what suits you best and be happy.

I myself reckon that KOL will keep No Line off the top spot though I don't particularly thing their album is all that great in anyway. A few radio friendly singles and thats about it. It's now 'cool' to like kings of leon and thats where the sales are coming from. Their previous 3 albums all blew me away though.

No Line isn't about catchy tunes, it's way more complex thatn that. It's U2 having a bit of balls about them againg and that alone is worth 7/10. Add the fact that the album is exactly what I needed from the band then we have one hell of an album. Had this been another cheap attempt and poppy 'catchy' tunes like the last 2 albums then my last post on this site would have been a few weeks ago. This album ticks all the boxes for me, more than just the quality of the songs. If this isn't the case for you then I hope they can deliver next time around.

I'm happy with the whole shebang

Have to agree about the KOL album. I listened to all the 30 second previews on iTunes and wasn't all that impressed, but you have to hand it to them, two monster singles that are still in the top 20 many many months after they were released that are doing exactly what singles should do - promote the album that they're from. I would love to see U2 produce a new song that could penetrate the popular consciousness so well, but perhaps it's about time they took the Led Zeppelin route and didn't bother with singles. Speaking of Led Zep, anyone else noticed that Stand Up Comedy starts like a slowed down version of Immigrant Song?

I am pleased to report that I now like "Magnificent".

  2. Let's not argue.

    But you are wrong!

I think Wacko stopped it with "Dangerous"
  3. According to wikipedia AB reached #2 and stayed in the charts for 87 weeks

  4. Thanks for settling that one, Risto.

  5. Not settled. Wikipedia is wrong. I have the book somewhere.
  6. Top Chart Position US: 1, Canada: 2, UK: 2

  7. Anyway, this can go elsewhere if it has to. We're seriously OT.

I think NLOTH will go No. 1 here.

  8. Agreed.

BTW I've been listening to NLOTH all evening and can now appreciate there is some very fine musicianship on there, but I'm still struggling to accept some of the lyrics. I'd love to hear this as an album of instrumentals!
  9. I like the fact that I have to work at it a little. The last 2 efforts were a little too easy. I was ready for a U2 change. Even though, its not that dramatic a change. I did not expect AB redux, or even POP redux. They are approaching 50, and would look a little ridiculous leaping about like 30 year olds.

I enjoyed the live performances of GOYB. It will be great to see it in person. If you sat thru the Grammy performances - U2's stood out a mile. Miles ahead of that very fluffy number from Coldplay.

    Let me in the sound!!!
