    That is, if your gear is right. I am making the assumption that most people will listen on average CD players with (to my standards) crappy Digital to Analog (D/A) convertors or first convert their fresh bought album to mp3.

    People that buy vinyl most of the time are audiophiles anyway and will use highend turntables, amps and speakers.

  3. I am not a traditional forum poster, but this was one of the best ideas/posts ever. This album is a grower, as all great albums are. This is my first U2 album in over a decade I didn't listen to through headphones first (a little 1 year old U2 fan and a complete lack of patience/willpower).

    Like UF, JT, and AB especially, this album is layered and textured in a beautiful way. Songs I wasn't sure about during my little man's playtime, dinner time, and bath time came alive in my ears once I could give them a proper listen. I encourage everyone to throw on some headphones and find an hour for yourself.

  4. The CD does sound considerably better than the MP3 rip I had before.

    But on low volume with some background noise (playing children, etc) and without headphones I hardly notice it. I need some silence - and volume! And a decent sound system of course.

  6. Mmm, I still didn't receive my box.

    I am *very* curious if the distortion in the first part of Cedars of Lebanon is not on the cd as it was in the mp3? Can someone tell me?

    One of the weirdest findings I have ever done was in another U2 song. "Discotheque". There was this moment in the tune that I got shivers all over my body knowing there was something wrong. From the very first play to 10 times later.
    It finally occured to me that I should investigate what was bothering me so much, so I did. That moment was from 4.12 to 4.14 in the song.
    Before reading on listen to that moment first. See if you can hear what I heard.

    I separated the left and right channel and discovered the error: Edge is playing two exactly the same guitar tracks. One in the left channel and one in the right channel. He does that more often to give more life to a guitar track. This doubling works quite well. But this time he did it before his morning coffee? He plays twice a B minor in the left channel while he is playing B flat in the right channel.

    I can hardly believe that this was done on purpose because it is plain false. It might well be a mixing failure where someone did a wrong cut and paste of audio... There are a lot of noticable cuts and weird mixing moments on POP anyway. I imagine that that talbum was put together under great stress somehow. You can hear it.

    No Line on the Horizon however sounds quite finished.

    Distortion?
    I haven't heard ANY distortion in COL ever? So I guess it isn't then

  11. Yes, that. It's very noticable around 0.36 to 0.40 (in the mp3).
