The beggining is very quiet and then it turns into an abrassive song with one of the bests solos I've heard from an Edge's guitar...

A 1,5 minute instrumental end, I hear an awesome live climax here
    UTEOTW Part 2
  2. Amen, and hopefully you'll be RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT

  3. Sure I'd rather listen that old fiasco over and over than the new one.
At least the remains of Bono's voice didn't pathetically creep through all those songs. Thanks God there were many instrumental ones.

    It was not a fiasco
It was beautiful, music in it's purest form
And listen to Slug and Your Blue Room, best singing Bono ever did at that moment

But this is quite off-topic, so I'll stop right there

For me, it didn't have the instant "I love this" effect on me that HTDAAB and the first half of ATYCLB had.

Quite like Magnificent, NLOTH, and Moment of Surrender though, and there's enough to suggest a few of the tracks could be "growers" ..... so I'll probably go from underwhelmed to loving it by this time next month !!!

as predicted .... apart from a couple of tracks i'm not really "into" .... I'm bloody loving it !!!

I've been listening to the new album on u2.com (yes, I am a paid up member) and I'm struggling to find anything resembling a catchy tune. I was one of the horde of fans who went out and bought Get On Your Boots on its day of release in order to help it shoot into the UK singles chart at number 12, even though I don't like the song and just wanted to hear what the b-side was like. NLOTH2 should have been the a-side IMHO. As I write this I am listening to Achtung Baby, a proper record, and one which I am ashamed to say I did not go out and buy the moment it was released. I won't be rushing out to buy NLOTH, and I certainly won't be spending £40+ on the deluxe edition which contains a DVD and a poster. Do U2 fans really need a poster, I ask myself? How old do they think most of their fans are?

Sorry but this is just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

PS Anyone care to bet that Kings of Leon, winners of "Best Girl Group" at the Brits according to Bono, will keep NLOTH off the top spot in the album chart here in the UK? If Achtung Baby couldn't make number one, this one probably doesn't deserve to either.

OK, I am happy to be proved wrong on all counts.

    1) There are lots of catchy tunes on the album

    2) NLOTH is, like Achtung Baby, a "proper" record

    3) I bought NLOTH on the day it was released

    4) KOL did not keep NLOTH off the top spot here in the UK. NLOTH has just bumped the Prodigy off the top spot

    5) It deserved to.

Lots of humble pie being eaten here. And very tasty it is too!
  7. Amen

I don't think that anybody can be 100% disappointed with the whole album. You can like one song and dislike another, but no U2 album is disappointing in my opinion

Most people wouldnt admit that! Great job Glad the album finally got to you!
  9. I still don't rank this album anywhere near as high as most do and can see it being regarded in the future as kind of a dadrock-era POP: a real hit and miss mixed bag of an album. In my opinion, NLOTH is an album which hints at moments of progression but also has way too many standard U2 moments (to the point of self-plagiarism occasionally) and very hit and miss (and sometimes plain embarrassing or plain lazy) lyrics. It still sounds unfinished to me, as I'm utterly convinced that any "3rd masterpiece" wouldn't have the middle three tracks from NLOTH on it, they're way too disposable. There'd also need to be something far sharper, engaging, interesting and creative about MOS, WAS and COL - the three of these just seem to plod along without any real original creative spark and all should have had more interesting twists to them both melodically and instrumentally. And too many of the tracks peak too early due to the constant high-register vocals throughout them, rather than the tracks building up and getting better as they go along. I disagree over the album being a grower too, as I find myself almost tired of the album already, with only Unknown Caller and Being Born left to suggest the album I was hoping for. I think I'll end up merely ranking this album as an occasionally creative but mostly uncertain and unfinished-sounding conclusion to the dadrock trilogy rather than the "great new direction" album which it's best songs hint towards. Just my opinion, try not to shoot me down for it.

I'm guessing you're listening to the Prodigy album instead, then?

  11. Did you ever wish they might actually produce their own album.... this to me is a bit over produced............by good people........ but over produced. It's not the U2 that pushed themselve's as young men..... it's a U2 that has allowed it's inner creativity to ride on the shoulders of Eno and Lanois...... that's my feeling.... and sad. Now...they are still great singing and musicianship no matter what, and I will follow them forever. To me the U2 that shines on this is the "feeling" in Moment ..... and the "drive" in Magnificent. Otherwise start over boys...... I'll be waiting.
