Personally I don't feel any sadness because he didn't do anything relevant in time when my musical taste was getting its shape. And as somebody said it feels like I'm the only one.

I had hours and hours talk with my friends about music and nobody ever mentioned him, but today most of them are shocked and they post his videos on Facebook every 2 minutes. I don't get it, it feels like people enjoy when something like this happens (real fans excluded).

    Thanks man.

I'm glad that I'm not alone with this. This brings the total up to about four.

I know, my nine year old sister who has never heard of him before was on the phone with her freind yesterday, she said "Oh, I feel so bad for him." I wanted to tell her to shut up.

You obviously haven't seen Buckethead then.

In the four albums he did after I was born in 1988 (Bad was '87, Thriller was '82), are relevant to me. I listen to them quite regularly. Hell, I even got the original version of Thriller, called Starlight.

But I wasn't a huge fan of the personality. He did great things for entertainment, yeah - but I saw his video today on the TV, and it looked off. A wreck, if you will. I also thought his 'wishing tree' produced some totally odd stuff, and some of it was truly bad.

If this doesn't scare you...but a guitar genius. Look up on YouTube if you have to. Essential listening.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. What were his best music videos? For me:

Dangerous - MTV 1995 Performance (killer)
    Black or White (Long Version)
    Ghosts (Long Version)
    Give In To Me
    They Don't Care About Us
    Smooth Criminal (Long Version)
  4. buckethead is brilliant btw. scary, but brilliant.

MJ played a huge part in my childhood. I can't remember why I started liking him, or when exactly I saw him for the first time, it just happened. the first musician I really paid attention to, whose music I loved and listened to 24/7. I watched every video, every show, every interview, every concert that got on tv. I tried dancing like him all day by the age of 5 and actually became so good, I 'performed' on some small stages. biggest thing I ever did was dancing to 'smooth criminal' in my last year at elementary school when we made a playback show for all parents and teachers I remember dancing twice, because people liked it so much.

my parents also bought a popular german magazine the month I was born (august 1988), just because, and as a child, I was always amazed about the fact that MJ was on that issue's cover. like it was destiny or something...

thus, a part of my childhood died yesterday and I deeply regret to have never seen him live. it's too late now...

The musical geniuses of the world are scary, yet so brilliant.

Forget Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, Invincible etc - go for Blood On The Dance Floor / HIStory In The Mix from 1997. Hard album to find but it is the work of a true genius. A part of my childhood and adulthood (and probably forever) died this morning too.

And only last week I started listening to all his albums and demos again - the demos are what makes the experience complete. But it felt weirder this morning with knowing about it. The songs are always there, always playing. No matter where. And it will live on for generations to come, like it has for 46 years. Gah...it's gonna be everywhere tomorrow afternoon.

These are what you need to see. Look for Morphine, Is It Scary, Who Is It, Remember The Time and Threatened on YouTube.

It's hard to describe because it's just...one of those rare albums. Like The Joshua Tree - an epic.

Skip the remixes though. Don't be losing your Thriller CD...up to $450 on eBay in some cases. Just the other day I was looking for a few new singles (One More Chance and the Dangerous ones) and then I look back on the bookmark for it and that's gone up to - whoa. I think we'll be seeing more and more demos coming out very soon - already three new ones tonight - Earth Song, Keep The Faith and Gone Too Soon.

Last rehearsal was apparently Thriller or Bad over at the Staples Centre down in LA. The dancers had seen him at 12.30pm dancing and singing, so in the two or so hours that followed up is weird. Especially doing the dance to those two which are pretty intensive. Maybe his body just couldn't take it and it gave up - who would have thought?

In a few hours we should know a preliminary cause of death. But it might be a month before a proper, true cause of death is revealed.
  8. My only real memories of Michael Jackson are of him being the butt end of all sorts of pedophilia and plastic surgery jokes, and of course his most recent trial in which he was acquitted. I'm honestly to young to remember him as anything else.
  9. in the meantime there's word that the police seeks after the personal doctor who lived in michael's house. reports say that there might have been a wrong dosis of demerol given ti michael by him. hope you get what i mean (english isn't my native tongue). anyhow, if this is true, it would sadly add to the tragedy.

It reminds me of his 1997 song, Morphine.

''Oh my god he's taken demerol...
Today he's taking twice as much
    Demerol..''

    Spooky.
