1. am i the only one who doesn't think the recording is all that great? I'd give it 4 stars.

  2. 4.5 I'd say for a broadcast. Hoping Noiseless will upload his 'remaster' later this year.
  3. Just uploaded more than 200 HQ photos of Sheffield, one of the very best of the 360 tour.

  4. It's compressed to death making it a tough listen. Loudness war has reached rock bottom.

Moreover someone over at Dime stated the broadcast is dolby pro logic encoded and although I was surprised at first and wouldn't have suspected it myself, he may very well be right. At least istening through a pro logic decoder takes away quite some clutter.

For those who are wondering why this FM sounds so "Strange, not a normal Sbd", so to speak.
I have the strong feeling the broadcast was in Dolby Pro-Logic !
It sounds a lot better if you play it through a Dolby Pro-Logic decoder and then turn off the rear speakers !!
Then you get rid of the rear echos !
It sounds much more as a real Sbd then.
If played in Stereo mode those rear channels echos are mixed in the Left/Right signals.

  5. I'm afraid I won't, or at least won't do so anytime soon.
If this indeed is a Pro-Logic broadcast (I'm not sure it is but it does make sense, see my comment above) I have to enter a completely different chapter in mastering to get things right

The sample I provided yesterday really isn't anything special and it doesn't make sense to me to finish the complete show that way, so I won't. It still sounds poor, maybe slightly less poor than the original broadcast, but still poor. It's a waste of time and I don't have much time, unfortunately. The only thing I achieved was a very very slight improvement of dynamics and I evened out the spectral characteristics which, as said before, was a lot of work while you barely can notice it. Really a waste of time.

Using a Pro-Logic decoder it's possible to discard Rt/Lt information from a stereo track (i.e. the rear speaker sounds, again: see above) during playback, but I wouldn't know a way to permanently get rid of it. Once I find a solution for this, I'll pick it up again.

As you might have noticed I'm not the one to just mess around with some freeware equalizer to pump things up. I want to know exactly what is the problem with a source, and then solve it with the best possible tools in a way that does justice to the source. If I can't think up a solution that satisfies me, I throw it away because adding mediocre remasters to the pool only adds to the confusion.

    Cheers
  6. ^^^ Fairplay. Good man
  7. This concert still reminds me to PopMart Leeds...incredible show..

Just listened to Sunday Bloody Sunday..still don't know what Bono's precisely shouting at the end (he does it like every 360 show I think) It isn't a real snippet is it? Anyone have a clue?

it's all them Northern folk going nuts, that's what.

But re. SBS, yeah I've wondered but I think it's a regular improvisation, don't think it's referencing anything else as such.

Probably someone is good at reciting his words
  10. thanks for the explanation, noiseless.
