I appreciate U2 remasters

as long as they don't do it themselves

Originally posted by MWSAH:Noiseless, on a serious note: would you get good results if you tried to remaster TUF by yourself? I mean..we got the Boy/October/War-remasters and only Boy sounded like an improvement (I still think they just added some minor bass and a bit of EQ-ing)..but anyway, I fear the same might happen with TUF.
It's not a request by the way, just a question..

No, no, no.
It's far beyond my skills to do a better job than the current TUF is. I don't complain about the quality of the album as it is now. Actually, I don't even think it needs remastering and in my opinion the other albums didn't need it either.
I think the Joshua Tree was remastered quite well, but - it's only an opinion - it came at a cost. The feel of the album changed and although it was done tastefully, I only listened to the remaster the first few days I owned it. The album is from the 80's and to me, a 80's sounds suits perfectly to it.
I do think the MFSL pressings do more justice to the music, the atmosphere, don't know really how to explain. I really really like the MFSL version of the Joshua Tree and the Unforgettable Fire and I'm quite sure the new UF remaster won't beat it.
The other remasters are far worse than the original albums. In my opinion Boy, October and War are bewilderingly poor, especially the bonus discs.
A lot of remasters (and there are a lot of remasters these days) aren't really remasters. The Joshua Tree was a real remaster (whether you like it or not). Boy, October, War - I wouldn't know, they sound like a lousy +4dB job with some bad EQ'ing. It doesn't make sense.
All in all, I think these remasters are overrated. To me, there isn't really a need to remaster all those albums and especially not when it's done poorly.
Originally posted by RattleandHum1988:The reason I buy the remasters is because as a u2 fan, I don't want ot be missing out on material that I know is out there. I've listened to teh bonus discs of the first 3 album remasters quite a few times (not so much war, i'm not into remixes) so I don't regret buying them.
The UF stuff, the only tracks from the Bonus disc there I have are the ones from Wide Awake. I haven't actually taken the time to track down the B-sides (although I know they're not hard to find around here) so they'll be a treat.
The DVD would have been better if it had a gig, like the JT Paris gig, but oh well, can't win em' all. I'm sure I'll still enjoy the dvd we're getting though, i mean i've seen u2's videos many times, and i mean many, but I still pop in the best of 90's to 2000's video's dvd once in a while, and i still enjoy it. So I know i'll enjoy this dvd, even if it lacks a live gig from the UF days. (conspiracy of hope doesn't count as UF for me)
As for the actual "remastering", I don't really care. I don't listen to the songs with a "high-def" enough system to actually notice a change. I didn't actually take the time to listen for subtle changes or compare the old albums and the new ones, I just enjoyed them. The only reason i'm buying them is for the bonus stuff, as wel as the pictures and book, which I will thoroughly enjoy.

Don't like Indian Summer Sky much either.
Hopefully Disappearing Act is good. I wonder if Yoshino Blossom will sound Japanese at all.

Really? I love Wire. The guitar part is really sick, and Bono's singing is top. Cool melodies in there.
