  1. Looking up U2gigs it says the the guys played 67 different songs throughout the V tour and have thus far played 37 different songs on this one. Considering the huge catalog of songs they have that may not seem like a huge amount but we're only half way through a second leg of what is likely to be a 5 leg tour.

    The comparison you could make, I guess, is with other established names. Radiohead for instance practise 80 songs before they go on tour while they can and will change a setlist dramatically, playing 22 different songs out of the 25 they played the night before. But they're a different animal to U2, who love a stadium showpiece as much as playing their own music. It' also worth pointing out that U2 probably have a larger casual fanbase compared to a band like Radiohead, a group who's albums you listen to as opposed to the hits that get radio airtime, as is U2's case.

    As much as I love U2 they're not as talented as some of you make out. I love most of Bono's lyrics, but sometimes (in truth a lot of the time) the guy loves sloganeering ('the future needs a big kiss' comes to mind). Their gigs are brilliant but riddled with errors. Even at their ZooTV heights they regularly made mistakes (Bono's butchering of the very first performance of 'Zooropa' still leaves a bad taste in the mouth). I question as to whether they would be able to regularly swap 40/50 songs every few nights.

    So they stick to their strengths, nothing wrong with that. In fact their gigs are better for it with more consistent performances.

    Regards the whole casual fan thing, I think the band strike a very nice balance. If they played to their casual fans entirely it would basically be the first 16 songs on U218, plus probably COBL, All I Want, AOH and one or two others. But even as hardcore fans it wouldn't be the same if they didn't play most of those songs.

    Ideally for me they'd play 7 new songs, 10 classics and 7 rareities and rotate the latter to a strong degree, which is more or less what they're doing with the exception of the rotating.

    We've only really got MLK, UF, UV, Walk On, IALW, Bad, PG, YBR, ES, UTEOTW, Stay and I guess Stuck so I suppose you could argue a case for providing more.

They just have a huge catalogue and fans will always want more...also, I think, this is a stadium tour with less room for variation and so everything has to be really well rehearsed.....Let´s look at the bright side...there is more shuffling around than all the STADIUM tours they´ve done...they dropped Pride and Bullet The Blue Sky, NYD and many others are frequent but not 100% sure...just drop some of the ATYCLB stuff and bring a song from POP and one from Zooropa and an early days one.......woud be ideal...but i am happy with it because i know....we fans always want more. By the way....I think everyone wants surprises and stuff, but not a lot of people check setlists like us via twitter and stuff so, for casual fans, it is still surprising... and tickets are expensive, in my opinion, because they are cared of something like what happened to their finances during popmart ....... But that´s why i like smaller venues....

    Just to correct a little mistake, it's 60 songs throughout the Vertigo Tour without counting snipepts, and some of them are sporadic (1 or 2 performances) songs such as Old Man River or Rocking In The Free World...


    EDIT. The 360 Tour also has got some sporadics as Auld Lang Triangle or She's The One, right

    I do agree though that there is a good mixture in the current setlist when it comes to new songs from the album, old favorites, newer favorites and some other "new" old songs. Sure I'd like to tweak it here and there, but who wouldn't? I mean ideally I would for U2 to stand under the claw and play for two days instead of two hours haha.

    Obviously I'm not saying that very hardcore fan loves TUF, Your Blue Room and MLK, but I tried to use it as example


    Oh btw, slightly off-topic, but worth saying anyhow: thanks to the 360 tour Ultraviolet sneaked into my top 10 favorite songs...

  9. What exactly is not rare or old about Ultraviolet and The Unforgettable Fire??

    Can guarantee you'd have them in your 'why aren't they playing these' if they hadn'tr been added to this tour.

    ISHF is a singalong treat on this tour and dropping Streets would be career suicide.
