1. This is a "Muse" topic, not a "Muse sounds like them" topic.

Here is my latest Muse news (cheap, I know)

I finally purchased H.A.A.R.P. (in person)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I purchased it on iTunes as soon as I heard "Map" a while back. Watching the DVD gave me goosebumps. I've made up a new word to describe the introduction. AbsofuckingepicmegaOMGjesuschrist. I love the color effects! Brilliant. After seeing a couple of concerts in person, it made the DVD all the more enjoyable. I was able to put myself in the crowd and imagine the bass moving through my body from the floor. I'm going to start saving my lunch change for Muse tickets now. Sounds really sad, but I'm serious (about $1.25 / week, lmao).

The Resistance - A Review For The Common Man

Uprising - I actually didn't like it at first. I hated the voice that Matt chose and I hated how people would say "Damn kid, doesn't know shit about the world." when they heard the choruses. Now, I'm singing it daily. A grower, but a damn good one as growers go.
Resistance - The guitar tone sounds absolutely brilliant on this track. The synth is beautiful, I always picture the aurora borealis when I hear it. Drums are nice, they move the song along, would be nice for traveling.
Undisclosed Desires - The pizzicato in this song is love. I play it every day in Orchestra between songs. The bass (not the slap bass, the really heavy, extra layer of sound one during the choruses) is amazing. Hearing their voices over that with headphones is epic. Electric drum kit is way cool. Actually, for a few years, I've been taping that same exact beat when I'm bored or something. So, when I heard it on the song, you can imagine how far down my jaw dropped.
United States Of Eurasia - The Piano / Orchestra choruses sends shivers up my spine. The rest of the song is average. I've based my own opera off of the song. "I'm wearing pants."
Guiding Light - If they edited out the synth and guitar solo, it would be a fantastic song. Invincible is better though.
Unnatural Selection - During the beginning, I always picture a silhouette of Matt singing into a Megaphone behind a bright blue screen. The guitar places me in the middle of a parody of an action film. This really extreme foot chase, followed by cheap CGI, you get the picture. My favorite part of the song is the jazzy middle section. Brilliant bass chords.
I Belong To You - Another grower. But like Uprising, I sing it daily. I always picture Matt singing this song with tons of makeup on, and dressed in drag. The piano is really nice, it suits the song perfectly. Matt's vocals towards the end are incredible. Who said that 2003 happened?
MK Ultra - This is almost the greatest song ever written. For me. It has literally everything that I want in a song. And it's all executed perfectly. A perfect background; a dark, secretive government story. This song contains one of my most favorite bass lines. I never thought that I would say this about a bass, but, it's beautiful. It gave me goosebumps. The drums move the song along, eloquently. The main guitar riff is high pitched, and subtly energetic. The second verse has a beautiful Orchestra behind it. Followed by a bad-ass riff. These are all the things that I want in a song. Thank you Muse. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Exogenesis / Overture - My favorite of the three. How Matt pulled this off, I may never know. I know how to compose guitar and piano works, but in Orchestra, I can only compose for Viola. I don't know the other clefs (well, I technically know the G clef, but I can barely play it). I'm used to reading the alto clef for Viola (I only read music in Orchestra). Anyway. The Orchestra is powerful, fierce, and intelligent sounding. Followed my Matt's piercing falsetto. Oh my God, I love it. The guitar would have been better if it was covered in distortion, like Supermassive Black Hole on H.A.A.R.P. ( I swear he's using way more for that performance than on the rest of the tour). A lot of you are thinking that would be out of place and would not match up. Well, exactly. It would just come out of nowhere, and blast us into NGC 4945.
Exogenesis / Cross Pollination - My second favorite of the symphonies. The piano bit is classic Matt. This one revolves more around Rock than the Orchestra. Which is nice I guess, it reminds us that it's really a Muse song that we are listening to. I always picture a dead man in a space suit, on a cheap "Moon landing" set in a basement. I start collecting donations for therapy as soon as I post this.
Exogenesis / Redemption - When Matt started singing, I had goosebumps. I just pictured myself in the Orchestra, playing this. Following the piano's tempo and moving back and forth in my seat. Nothing outer worldly, just me. This is the more personal symphony. During the "We'll get it right, it's our last chance" part, my eyes watered up.

This is my favorite Muse album. It really makes all the other albums sound kind of amateur. The only thing that I would change about it is Guiding Light.

  3. Wow, freaky!

Has anyone got tickets to see them this year? Or has seen them this year?
I just showed my mom H.A.A.R.P.! She thought that Matt's Kaoss Pad was annoying, but other than that, she was absolutely blown away. She agreed to take me to a Muse show when they come around here!!!

I can't wait until they swing around the usa.
I agree pretty much with your review of the album, except for the bit about the guiding light solo. Its so awesome.
The effects on haarp sure are mind-blowing

  6. Clever.
I think it's only for show, I don't really see Matt doing anything with it. Maybe the thunderous bass tones during the choruses/bridges?

    Hey hey hey
That's just me, I personally can't stand guitar solos like the one in Guiding Light. Just me though.
    Most definitely.

That was mainly when he was using it. It usually is a dorky instrument, but Matt Bellamy and Demetri Martin sure can make it look awesome

At least it worked out better than the Harmonatar.

Do I want to know what that is lol?

    (Whooops! )

  11. A mix between a Harmonica and a Guitar that I just made up, in order to make the Keytar look slightly useful.

    lol
  12. I still stand by my original feelings that The Resistance, whilst a great album (in my opinion), doesn't feel like anything new - more a hybrid of previous work, in particular Absolution and Blackholes & Revelations - there's nothing in it that strikes me as different, new or whatever. That's not to say that I dislike the album - I love it - but I wish there wasn't all this hype about it being Muse's new sound because, to me, it's not new or whatever. Bloody clever compositions and musicianship as always from the boys, but it knarks me that people consider it as different.
