1. I agree- we don't need singles on an album, because singles call for radio play, and if these songs aren't radio-friendly, the last thing this album needs is bashed like NLOTH because "Magnificent" didn't get a lot of radio play. Which, I mean, in turn, pretty much makes it a terrible song, if I'm understanding all of this correctly.
  2. Does anybody have a rumored tracklist? Obviously we know "Every Breaking Wave" will be on there, and we're hoping "Kingdom" and "Winter" make it on as well. With that being said, that leaves quite a few other outtakes from past albums. Has anyone heard any solid news about tracks being on or not, or even rumors?

    I'm dying for Mercy, seriously.

zilch, besides the aforementioned songs. I'm hoping for Mercy too, but not really holding out for it

  4. I've got an mp3 of it, so it's sitting happily on my iPod...not the GREATEST audio quality, but still pretty good. The only reason I absolutely have to see this put on SoA is so that it gets recognition, and potentially live play. If it just gets left out for people to find on their own, sort of like "Lady With the Spinning Head", it's never going to get played live...just like LWTSH.

I have it too, I've thought it one of their best songs for over 5 years now; simply sublime and euphoric. I don't understand why they haven't released it (despite them "not having a place for it")

As much as it is frustrating, I can see where they're coming from. This doesn't really fit on NLOTH at all, for me, but I suppose it would have worked on HTDAAB...actually, sticking this towards the end of the album probably would have been killer. Maybe sub out Crumbs From Your Table, or at least between Original and Yahweh. Perfect for the back end of an album.

Actually, I could see this following Breathe, too.

Damn them! IT DOES HAVE A PLACE! Haha, I used to not be able to see what all the fuss was about...but I'm hooked.

They do infact have the studio book for an indefinite amount of time from roughly the 25th of October to mid November. I also talked and he said, he could probably get me in there to see them work their magic and quite possibly meet them. Needless to say, Im stupidly excited for October and no longer for 360, but to see the recording and mastering of Songs of Ascent!"

    on http://www.thefactorystudios.com the following:

quote: "The Factory Studios are located in beautiful Vancouver British Columbia. Its central location provides the opportunity to enjoy the city’s main amenities. The Factory opened in the spring of 1995 in the former Little Mountain Sound Building. Since this time the studio has seen the likes of Marilyn Manson, Bad Company, Billy Talent, Holly McNarland, Yuca, Barney Bentall, and Zubot & Dawson to name a few.

The factory is home to a wonderful Neve 8048 console. This along with loads of vintage microphones and outboard gear proves to be a haven to producers, engineers, and the artists they work with.

The factory was nominated for 2006 recording studio of the year at the WCMA. Our engineers have been nominated twice for recording engineer of the year at The Juno awards in the past 3 years and 7 Junos have been handed out to the artists that have recorded at the factory."

    Bring it on!

VANCOUVER!, makes logical sense... there are alot of excellent recording studios in the city and I know the band have enjoyed the city over the years.. and given that leg two is ending there why not stay and do some recording..

...this is something i have to look into more.. if anyone has more information please let me know via pm, I will be staying for a few days after the vancouver show and if the rumour can be validated will spend time outside the studio.
  8. What kind of sound/songs are we expecting from this? What does Bono mean when he says the songs will be "meditative" and "reflective"? Are they going to be slower songs? I would hope for at least one rocker.

songs like White As Snow I reckon. But there also seems to be some more experimental stuff

    Bono told me this:

"Songs Of Ascent will be quieter than No Line in many ways, it's that ghost album of hymns and Sufi singing. We're making a kind of heartbreaker, a meditative, reflexive piece of work, but not indulgent."

    ?

Less rock, more ambient, totally Eno influenced, hints of Being Born and Passengers, unexpected, calming, relaxing and imagination but not like the last 25 years.

If that's anything at all (probably not) like what it's gonna be, I reckon it'll be interesting.
