1. Ok, so there are a bunch of songs in the world that albeit famous, have leeched off of other songs.

I'm setting some ground rules right away, so no fighting will pursue in this great forum.

    1. No attacking people with your opinions. Just state them. If you wanna bitch about it, take it to general chat.

    2. Do not insult anyone or anything. I'll quote the Bambi movie "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all."

    3. You may sarcastically jab at artists. Please include a smiley, though. Make it silly, not mean.

    DONE.

    Ok, I've got a few:

Joe Satriani's whine fest with Coldplay's Viva la Vida
The Who's "My Generation" and The Rolling Stone's "Can I Have a Witness?"
The Killer's "This Is Your Life" and Panic At the Disco's "Northern Downpour"

I'll be on later to show why I'm suspicious about the latter two.
  2. I never got all the fuss about VLV copying Steve Vai, I mean cmon they're completely different genres, it's highly unlikely that CP even listened to Vai's music. And every once in a while you're going to get a riff that's similar to something someone else has written just due to coincidence.

Also we can talk about how Matt Bellamy imitates Thom Yorke's vocal style
  3. There's Stairway To Heaven and this song from a band called Spirit, who happened to open some shows for Led Zeppelin.
You can hear a bit of the song here http://www.led-zeppelin.org/multimedia/index.php?m=roots
There are a lot of other "inspirations" for Led Zeppelin song on this adress.
One thing is for sure: I wouldn't share a great musical ideia with Jimmy Page if I was yet to register it.
  4. Was there not some issue about Discotheque and some other song?
  5. I think Oasis is ( or was ) one of that bands interested in songstealing. For example -
  6. "Pieces" by Sum 41 is alarmingly similar to "The Scientist" by Coldplay, although obviously I much prefer the latter.
  7. I think that the keyboard riff in the opening of "uprising" by muse sounds eerily similiar to the guitar riff in Billy Idols "White Wedding"
  8. I once read that Beautiful Day sounded very similar to something else. Can't remember the name of it though AND to me it didnt sound the same.

Matt also compared Resistance to New Year's Day.
