1. You mean Mexico 1992-11-25?
Or (most likely) Anaheim 1992-11-14? Anaheim was a good show indeed, and the recording is more than OK, but... it wasn't last 1992 show!
  2. Amazing sing that's sounding great in u2360

however, it's amazing how songs in the first leg sounded better, mainly the singing

I love Sheffield 09 and DC 92 versions

    Forgot about the Mexico concerts

But yes, I do mean Anaheim 1992-11-14.

  4. I've always put the lack of power in Bono's voice down to the fact he's singing the song while swinging from the mic. Try filling your lungs while doing a chin-up; it's almost impossible. Personally, I was really surprised to see him doing practically the whole song this way and full props to him for have the pipes to pull it (mostly) off.

Ehh...I have to disagree there. While I'm certain it's stressful on the man's lungs to open the song swinging like he does, I don't think he's really doing it for the whole song. All that screwing around with throwing it across the stage like a boomerang probably isn't helping him concentrate on his voice, though. The design of the mic is brilliant, but its' execution is only brilliant about 1/2 the time its used.
  6. Tears in my eyes this morning, while I listened and was singing along with Sheffields version.
  7. C'mon guys... how can you really top 360" versions over ZooTV versions?
360 version is all about shouting... shouting starting from 2nd verse coz Bono no longer has the emotion to sing it meaningly like he did back in ZooTV days, so now he justs substitutes it with "seemingly emotional" high-pitched lines.
Where is the god-forsaken line "Baby baby baby liiiiiiight myyyy waaaay!" right before the 3rd chorus? IMHO that was the center of the song, the turning point. And it was quite fitting that he then continued the 3rd verse in a higher key. Nowadays no turning point, just straight screaming as earlier as possible. And instead of this beautiful line we now can hear only some strange semi-silent Edge's babbling.
IMHO the song has lost its meaning. Bono now just sings it like another pop song, trying to make it look as *awesome* as possible, but no heart anymore.
  8. I agree, Bono shouts too much in the 360 versions and then runs out of breath with all his flailing about on stage and cant sing the 'ultraviolet love" chorus.

And they've also taken out the repeated baby, baby, baby! bits (followed by that riff) at the end of the ZooTV performances, which I loved.

The only thing better in the 360 performances (apart from the lightshow and Bono's suit) is Edge's new moody solo which suits the song much more than its ZooTV counterpart.
  9. A definite highlight of 360 for me. One of the best bits of all the shows I attended

The only time Bono should ever shout during the song is the bridge bit, and that's where the punch is needed. "I was all messed/fucked up" is perfected this way. It just adds so so much. And there's a difference between the shouting too. Bono sounds like he has so much more soul back in '92.

But mind you, we only have two versions to work with here. PopMart and UV just don't mix. Elevation could have worked, possibly right before The Fly when it closed the show. Some could argue it couldn't, but maybe it could. We'll never know. For Vertigo, I don't think it could have fit. The sound on Vertigo just clashes with UV's spirit. Does 360 fit? Weirdly enough, it does.

So, in the end, what's the difference? 17 years and Bono's vocals. The band's just fine, though.

You just named the reasons why I think this is better than the ZooTV-performances.
The Zoo-versions were cool, but Bono sang the song too "easy". I know, it sounds rather dull to name it like this, since it was rather brilliant, but nowadays he puts in more high notes and dares to really sing the song, instead of speaking out the lyrics. Just my opinion tough....

Whether people may think he shouts it or not, I say that the 360° rendition is more dramatic. The way Bono sings it and Edge's slide riffs give it such an epic feel for me.
