Hm, hardly true because Susan Boyle's album was the best selling album on Amazon EVER.

  3. I think that they need to put out some new material to generate some momentum going into the next phase of the tour in the summer. There has/will be a large gap and their current album doesn't have enough "radio play" material to keep things going for the summer tour. Unfortunately sales and radio play matter for selling tickets. New material that can reach listeners that would want to put out money to buy tickets to hear U2 play live is important to support such a massive tour. They do have an established fan base that will go but new material is needed to catch some new fans for a second round world tour. IMHO.

My initial answer was to agree with you, and I was going to only add that the majority of the album be much more conceptual, and that only two or three songs should be reserved for that single/radio play type. Then I remembered that seems to be what disrupted NLOTH for some people, myself included...the middle three, which were more radio friendly than the rest, but prevented the album as a whole from reaching some sort of conceptual wholeness.

I'd like to see a single more along the lines of Magnificent - something that's radio-friendly and catchy, while still being relatively relevant to the album as a whole - than a Crazy Tonight or Stand Up Comedy, which just seem to be dropped in there. As long as that single is promoted well enough...I still can't believe that Magnificent didn't catch on, even with its limited to no promotion and radio play, here in the States at least.

Definitely agree... I couldn't believe its lack of play compared to Boots or Comedy. Magnificent is my favorite song on the album

  7. I'll just wait and see..all that gossip makes me wary
  8. From the Telegraph:

Q: What about the new album, the long rumoured ‘Songs Of Ascent’, which is supposed to be based around more low key material from the Horizon sessions.

EDGE: Well that’s what I’m working on this week, actually. I’m songwriting. In fact, I wrote something this morning just before getting on the phone with you, it sounds great. So on that level we’re pushing forward, we’re not taking it easy, but we won’t really know til the new year what we’ll be able to achieve. There’s a certain sort of practical window of opportunity to release the record that we are operating within. If the material isn’t ready for the early new year we’ll probably have to put it on hold. But I’m looking forward to the idea of playing some of the songs live before they’re released. That would be my consolation prize if we don’t get the album done. We’ve never done it, we’ve always talked to all of our producers about the idea, but I think it would give the tour a little frisson which I think it needs. If you have two or three new songs no one’s heard before thrown in from time to time, I think that would be very exciting, for us as well, to try them and see how they get on

@U2 said this interview was done before Bono and Paul McGuinness talked about a possible June release, so maybe it will come out before the tour resumes
  10. even if we dunt get a new album it sounds like we will hear sum new songs played live anyway. It's a win/ win situation
  11. I´m really excited! The Edge said they are working on left over songs, so did Bono, and from what we heard they had written like 50 songs, so there must be good ones... I really like Winter and Kingdom and I believe Every breaking Wave will be good, if it´s released. And it´s a win win situation really, if we don´t get the new album we will very likely get one or two songs being rod tested
